Frankie Rosenberg is the world's first slayer-witch, but she doesn't have that slay-life balance figured out just yet. She's still reeling from the deadly explosion at the annual slayer retreat—and new evidence that some slayers may have survived. And while she's defeated her first Big Bad, Frankie soon realizes it was just a warm up act—and bigger, badder forces of evil are only just getting started. The Hellmouth has been reawakened, inter-dimensional portals are opening, and an oracle warns of a new foe on its way: the Darkness. Could this be what attacked the slayers? And is it coming for Frankie?
Short and Sweet Review
After the events of the first book, Frankie has been honing her skills and working on being a better slayer and also work on her magic. Frankie and her friends still don’t have definite news about the explosion and whether other slayers have survived or not. Frankie is also dealing with the fact that there’s more evil coming her way but of course it is she lives in the home of the Hellmouth.
Frankie and her gang of scoobies have been training and fighting all of the evil forces that come near, but with the increase in evil they fear that the hellmouth has been reopened. There’s also still a bit of mystery surrounding what happened to the other slayers. Hailey’s sister Vi returns but she’s very secretive about what happened with the other slayers. Everyone ends up learning there’s a group that calls themselves the darkness and they have some nefarious plans. We learn more about The Darkness and I get where they’re coming from but they are going about things the wrong way. I do love that Frankie has a large support system to help her along the way. I still think some of the dialogue in this book is cheesy. The pacing of this book is great and I did enjoy the plot. I also liked how we have Buffy references and this series doesn’t seem so far off of something that could have happened in the show.
Overall, this was a good book. I’m excited to see how everything is wrapped up and I feel like it’s going to be an exciting ending to this trilogy.
