Monty’s epic grand tour may be over, but now that he and Percy are finally a couple, he realizes there is something more nerve-wracking than being chased across Europe: getting together with the person you love.

Will the romantic allure of Santorini make his first time with Percy magical, or will all the anticipation and build-up completely spoil the mood?

Short and Sweet Review

The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky is a novella that takes place right after the first book. Monty and Percy are a couple now but they haven’t been together romantically yet. Monty wants this to be special and the romantic setting of Santorini should help, unless the anticipation and build up end up ruining the mood. This novella was so cute I’m glad I got to see these characters again. Not only are Monty and Percy worried about being together romantically but they’re planning the rest of their lives together which also ends up making Monty nervous. Monty and Percy are a great couple. They do have their moments when they fight or disagree about something but in the end they come together to find a resolution. This novella is cute and hilarious and just made my love for these characters grow even more! If you’ve read the other books, I recommend this novella!

Lady Victoria Aston has everything she could want: an older sister happily wed, the future of her family estate secure, and ample opportunity to while her time away in the fields around her home.

But now Vicky must marry—or find herself and her family destitute. Armed only with the wisdom she has gained from her beloved novels by Jane Austen, she enters society’s treacherous season.

Sadly, Miss Austen has little to say about Vicky’s exact circumstances: whether the roguish Mr. Carmichael is indeed a scoundrel, if her former best friend, Tom Sherborne, is out for her dowry or for her heart, or even how to fend off the attentions of the foppish Mr. Silby, he of the unfortunate fashion sensibility.

Most unfortunately of all, Vicky’s books are silent on the topic of the mysterious accidents cropping up around her…ones that could prevent her from surviving until her wedding day.

Short and Sweet

Victoria Aston has everything she wants, and her life is great until she learns that she has to marry to make sure her family’s estate doesn’t go to someone else. Now Victoria has to enter society’s season to try to find a husband. All Victoria knows is that she’ll be using Jane Austen’s novels as a guide, but Miss Austen’s novels don’t have advice on how to make it through the season when strange accidents keep occurring around her.

Characters

Victoria: Victoria is our main character and she’s just the best. Victoria has a strong sense of family and would do anything for them which she displays multiple times throughout the book. Vicky is described as having childlike ideals by the other characters but she’s also quite smart. Vicky takes interest in things that most women during that time period wouldn’t such as learning about estates and she isn’t afraid to talk about matters that most would consider inappropriate for her to hear.

Althea: Althea is Victoria’s older sister and she’s been through a lot. Althea ends up leaving her husband and going back to her family’s estate. It turns out that Althea has been mistreat and she’s a shell of her former self. I did like how Althea did progressively get better throughout the book and I loved the bond between Althea and Vicky.

Tom: Tom is a childhood friend and he lives in the neighboring estate. Tom has been away for a while and when he comes back he doesn’t really know anyone except for the Astons. Tom always tried to do the right thing and sometimes it didn’t work out but he genuinely tried and thats something I really liked about him.

Carmichael: Carmichael is a gentleman that is a potential husband for Victoria. Carmichael is pretty wealthy and Victoria’s parents admire him.

Dain: Dain is Althea’s husband we don’t see a lot of him but he is around. Dain is an awful person and he’s pretty cruel.

Romance

Victoria and Tom: Victoria and Tom would always play as children but after Tom left it was a pretty big blow for Victoria. When Tom comes back the two have to get reacquainted and during that time they do realize that the feelings they had for each other never went away. I loved these two so much and their friendship was great and I liked how they spent time getting to know each other again.

Victoria and Carmichael: Carmichael is already a business partner of Victoria’s father so they’ve already met but become more acquainted when Victoria takes part in the season. Carmichael seems like a great fit for Victoria but he doesn’t really see things the way she does and to her its a deal breaker.

My Thoughts

~ I loved the time period that this book took place in and it all felt accurate and the writing was great.

~ We get to read from Victoria and Tom’s POV. I liked them both and it was interesting to see what they both thought about certain situations especially when they were both at the same place.

~ I liked seeing Victoria go on dates and getting her opinions on those suitors and it was funny because some of those guys were just awful.

~ So there’s a lot of strange things happening like someone attacking Victoria on the estate, one of her dates going extremely wrong, and being followed. Someone is trying to get rid of Victoria and now she’s trying to figure out who and this was honestly a good mystery because I wasn’t completely sure who it was.

~ Tom has been going through a lot because he has to keep his family afloat because they’re in debt and he’s trying to get a business deal to go through.

~ In this book Victoria uses characters from Jane Austen’s books to guide her through the season and I loved it. I haven’t read any of Austen’s books but this book got me interested.

Overall

I loved this book! It put a smile on my face and I loved seeing Victoria go on dates and try to find someone who would truly love her. Victoria was an amazing heroine and even in her time period she knew she would not be treated as a women who would be taken lightly. I would definitely recommend this book it was such a fun read and the mystery aspect was great!

Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania—derailing the War Between the States and changing the nation forever.

In this new America, safety for all depends on the work of a few, and laws like the Native and Negro Education Act require certain children attend combat schools to learn to put down the dead.

But there are also opportunities—and Jane is studying to become an Attendant, trained in both weaponry and etiquette to protect the well-to-do. It's a chance for a better life for Negro girls like Jane. After all, not even being the daughter of a wealthy white Southern woman could save her from society’s expectations.

But that’s not a life Jane wants. Almost finished with her education at Miss Preston's School of Combat in Baltimore, Jane is set on returning to her Kentucky home and doesn’t pay much mind to the politics of the eastern cities, with their talk of returning America to the glory of its days before the dead rose.

But when families around Baltimore County begin to go missing, Jane is caught in the middle of a conspiracy, one that finds her in a desperate fight for her life against some powerful enemies.

And the restless dead, it would seem, are the least of her problems.

Short and Sweet

Jane attends Miss Preston’s School of Combat in Baltimore preparing to be an attendant and fight off shamblers, but that’s not the life Jane wants. Jane just wants to finish her education and go back home to Kentucky. But when families start to go missing in Baltimore Jane finds herself in the middle of a situation she never thought she’d be in.

Characters

Jane: Jane is our main character and I liked her. Jane was smart unlike some of the other girls she knew how to read and write. Jane was sometimes impulsive which got her into a lot of trouble at times. Jane is also great at fighting shamblers at close combat.

Katherine: Katherine is black but she’s light skinned which gives her an advantage to pass as a white woman which she and Jane use in certain situations. I loved Katherine she well mannered, snarky, and fashionable, she’s also great with a rifle. I felt bad that people didn’t want her as an attendant because she was too pretty.

Romance

There’s not much romance in this book. Jane used to date Red Jack but they broke up and are somewhat friends now, and Jane and Gideon are just friendly with each other.

Quotes

~ “Besides Jane, the day I cannot take down a few shambles wearing something fashionable is the day I turn in my rifle.”

My Thoughts

~ Let me just start by saying Jane and Katherine are my favorite thing about this book! They didn’t like each other at first but then they ended up growing on each other and that is the greatest relationship in this book their friendship!

~ The book is told in Jane’s POV only and at the start of every chapter we see a little snippet from letters between Jane and her mother. All I really want is for Jane and her mother to be reunited.

~ I liked the mystery aspect of the book because where were all the families disappearing to? This one hit more to home for Jane because its Red Jack’s sister who also goes missing.

~ When Jane and Katherine were sent to Summerland I felt to bad for them because the Priest and the Sheriff were awful it was almost like they were running a cult.

~ Like I mentioned earlier Jane is pretty smart and she comes up with a plan to get her and Katherine out of Summerland and to somewhere safe mainly back to her home at Rosehill.

~ The ending left me wanting Jane and her mother to reunite especially because the letter problem and I can’t wait to see her journey to California

Overall

I loved this book, it was amazing and I’m ready for the sequel! I just want Jane to find her momma and I want more of Jane and Katherine I love their friendship. This book was captivating and entertaining and I can’t stop thinking about it!

You may think you know the story. Penniless orphan Jane Eyre begins a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester—and, Reader, she marries him. Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Bronte, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

Short and Sweet

My Plain Jane follows Jane Eyre as she leaves he teaching job to become a governess at Thornfield Hall. While there Jane meets the master of the house Mr. Rochester, and falls in love, but strange things are happening at Thornfield Hall. In this adventure Jane has her best friend Charlotte Bronte an aspiring author, and they both meet Alexander Blackwood a supernatural investigator.

Characters

Jane: Jane is often described as being plain and I guess to most people who come across her she is. Jane is able to see ghost and is in fact a beacon but she wants nothing to do with becoming a ghost hunter which is why she takes the job as a governess. Jane is an interesting character I liked her but she did let the shady things that Rochester did slide, I felt like she should have inquired more about the weird things going on at Thornfield.

Charlotte: Charlotte is an aspiring author and one of Janes best friends. Charlotte is not a seer but is intrigued by the work the society does to hunt down ghost so she sticks around and tries to help Alex. Even though Charlotte can’t see ghost, her great observational skills and ability to make plans does end up becoming useful enough to keep her around as an assistant.

Alex: Alex is one of the best ghost hunters and takes his job very seriously. Alex comes across Jane and realizes that she would be a great ghost hunter but she doesn’t want to accept his offer so he decides to do whatever it takes to convince her to join the society.

Helen: Helen died when she was at Lowood so she’s obviously a ghost. Helen sticks around because she believes Jane needs her to and they are best friends. I love Helen she sticks up for Jane even though most people can’t hear or see her, and when Jane is at Thornfield she acts as a voice of reason.

Mr. Rochester: Edward Rochester is the master of Thornfield Hall and something is very off with the man. Honestly he just acts so strange and acts like certain things haven’t happened, for example if there was someone banging on the wall he would pretend he didn’t hear it.

Romance

Jane and Mr. Rochester: Um Rochester is really old and acts very strange and he tells Jane nice things and I guess this is why she loves him? Honestly its just all so strange especially his odd behavior.

Charlotte and Alex: In the beginning Alex looks at Charlotte as a pest but as time goes by and they spend more time together he starts to fall for her and vice versa. I liked this relationship it wasn’t instant it took a little while to develop.

My Thoughts

~ I thought this book was funny and I wasn’t expecting that but there was a good amount of humor.

~ I liked the mystery aspect of this book, because what in the world is going on at Thornfield and why does Rochester act so strange? I also liked the ghost hunting and it was fun seeing Alex do his job.

~ So in this book Charlotte and Jane are best friends instead of Charlotte being the author of a book Jane is a character in.

~ I loved Alex and Charlotte’s attempt at trying to recruit Jane to join the society it was interesting seeing Charlotte’s plan play out.

~ Charlotte’s brother Bran is also a character and he’s supposed to be a recruit for the society but he isn’t living up to the expectations. Bran is sweet but he does make a mess of things.

Overall

I genuinely liked this book going into it I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it but I fell in love with the premise and the characters. I haven’t read a lot of books about ghost hunters but I thought it was great and I enjoyed the twist on Jane Eyre. So the books in the series don’t have to be read in order but I definitely plan on reading the first one and I can’t wait until the third book is released!

A year after an accidentally whirlwind grand tour with her brother Monty, Felicity Montague has returned to England with two goals in mind—avoid the marriage proposal of a lovestruck suitor from Edinburgh and enroll in medical school. However, her intellect and passion will never be enough in the eyes of the administrators, who see men as the sole guardians of science.

But then a window of opportunity opens—a doctor she idolizes is marrying an old friend of hers in Germany. Felicity believes if she could meet this man he could change her future, but she has no money of her own to make the trip. Luckily, a mysterious young woman is willing to pay Felicity’s way, so long as she’s allowed to travel with Felicity disguised as her maid.

In spite of her suspicions, Felicity agrees, but once the girl’s true motives are revealed, Felicity becomes part of a perilous quest that leads them from the German countryside to the promenades of Zurich to secrets lurking beneath the Atlantic.

Short and Sweet

After joining her brother Monty on his grand tour of Europe, Felicity Montague is determined to make her dreams of enrolling in a medical school and becoming a doctor come true. But her ambitions are usually ignored by male superiors who believe that practicing medicine is a job for men only. When Felicity finds out an old friend of hers is marrying one of the doctors she idolizes she believes this is finally her chance. The only problem is that Felicity has no money to make it to Germany on her own, but a women offers to pay for Felicity’s journey just as long as she gets to come along and pretend to be Felicity’s maid. Felicity doesn’t know what the girls motives are but when she finds out Felicity ends up on a quest around the countryside.

Characters

Felicity: Our main character who will do anything she can just to get a chance to learn more about medicine and become a doctor. We obviously learn a lot more about Felicity in this book because its her story. I did learn that though Felicity is more level headed and thinks things through more than Monty she seems to think she’s more superior than those who don’t see things the way she does. Even though she was a little off-putting and judgmental she grew so much throughout the book and I loved that and who her character turned out to be.

Sim: Sim our mysterious pirate who pays for the journey to Germany. Sim is the daughter of the most feared pirate commanders, and since she’s the first born she wants to prove herself but this proves to be hard because she’s a woman. Sim joins Felicity, because she wants to take something from Johanna’s house that she believes rightfully belongs to her family. I liked Sim despite all of the obstacles in her way she never gave up and was determined to do what she had to even if her means were wrong.

Johanna: Johanna… I loved Johanna so much. When Johanna and Felicity were teenagers they didn’t end on the right foot mainly because Felicity was into medicine and learning more and Johanna liked spending her time getting dressed up and going to functions. I think what I loved the most about Johanna was that she was seen as a girl who is soft because she preferred dresses and makeup but Johanna is fierce, smart, and loves her dog Max.

Platt: The Doctor that Felicity idolizes and Johanna’s fiancé. Platt obviously seems like a good person because he’s willing to Felicity a chance, but he plans on going on an expedition after the wedding but the details aren’t fully exposed.

Monty: Felicity’s older brother. I loved Monty in his book and I loved him in this book as well. He’s a sibling and as most people know siblings can get on your nerves but he does care about Felicity and wants to look out for her.

Percy: Monty’s boyfriend. I love Percy he’s like another brother to felicity and cares about her too I just love him so much and his sweet demeanor.

Romance

Felicity and Sim: Hmm well these two have an interesting relationship. They’re not very fond of each other in the beginning but as they get to know each other more they begin to form more of a friendship.

Monty and Percy: Well Monty and Percy are still as lovable as ever. They care for each other and we can see this in the book and they genuinely like each others company they balance each other out.

Johanna and Platt: I don’t know how their relationship started but this is one of those things where these two are just together to be together, mainly because Platt wants something he can only get if he says he’s Johannas husband.

Quotes

~ “Well,” I reply, “good thing I’d rather not be any man’s protege.”

My Thoughts

~ Lots of girl power in this book! I loved that Felicity never gave up on her dream to learn more about medicine. Johanna and Sim are also strong female figures in this book.

~ I like adventures and this one was perfect I mean all Felicity wanted was to go to Germany to meet Platt but the next thing she knows she’s going around the countryside trying to help Johanna proclaim her mothers work.

~ We also get some pirates in this book. At the beginning of the book we see Scipio and his crew again which is also where Felicity and Sim meet.

~ My favorite thing about this book was seeing Felicity grow as a person I mentioned it earlier but I feel like its worth mentioning again. Felicity becomes a softer version of herself  and more understanding to the fact that other people will have interest that are different than hers.

~ There were a few things I weren’t expecting in this book like Platt being an awful person, Johanna knowing this, Felicity finding out and being smart enough to find Johanna, and Sim trying to find something to keep her father’s territories safe from the English.

~ I was also so happy with the ending its not really what I was expecting but it was still good and I am impressed with all of the characters!

Overall

I’m glad we got a book with Felicity’s point of view and she got to go on an amazing quest on the German countryside and showed us just how amazing girls can be, especially when they work together. We get to see our favorite characters from the last book, meet new characters who are just as amazing. I definitely recommend this book if you’re looking to go on an adventure with our characters, I would also recommend picking up the first book and starting there if you haven’t already!

Courage, sacrifice, and fear have lead Rio, Frangie, and Rainy through front-line battles in North Africa and Sicily, and their missions are not over. These soldiers and thousands of Allies must fight their deadliest battle yet—for their country and their lives—as they descend into the freezing water and onto the treacherous sands of Omaha Beach. It is June 6, 1944. D-Day has arrived.

No longer naive recruits, these soldier girls are now Silver Star recipients and battle-hardened. Others look to them for guidance and confidence, but this is a war that will leave sixty million dead. Flesh will turn to charcoal. Piles will be made of torn limbs. The women must find a way to lead while holding on to their own last shreds of belief in humanity.

Short and Sweet

In this final installment of the Front Lines series, Rainy, Rio, and Frangie, are fighting for their country and the strength to get through the war while remaining sane and keeping their hope in humanity. D-Day arrives and the girls still have a lot left to fight for if they’re going to make it out of this war alive, they’ll be crossing enemy lines and trying to survive.

Characters

Rio: Rio has moved up in ranks and is now a sergeant. In this book Rio struggles with having to keep her platoon alive. Rio is such a strong character and so are all of the other female leads in this series. Rio calls things how she sees them and she’s grown so much through the series and you can tell. I like the fact that she knows that even though she’s a girl and most men won’t take her seriously that she’s still just as powerful as them if not more.

Rainy: Rainy is smart and she always has been. I like Rainy a lot, in this book she’s tasked with finding out where the enemy is going and reporting back to the Army with this information. Rainy has to deal with a traitor and she sees some things that disturb her while on this mission.

Frangie: Frangie our medic. I feel like Frangie has it the worst, even though she’s just a medic and isn’t fighting she sees a lot of the aftermath of the war. She has to tend to soldiers with extreme injuries and she has to go on everyday seeing people die or soldiers intentionally trying to hurt themselves to get out of the war. Frangie does the best that she can and I think she’s great she puts so much effort into helping the soldiers and she has a natural caring nature about her.

Romance

Rio and Strand: This two have been sweethearts before they even got enlisted. I really liked these two together and I was kind of sad to see it fall apart just because Strand was embarrassed by how much better Rio was at being a soldier than he was.

Rio and Jack: Jack is one of the soldiers in Rio’s group and in Silver Stars the two shared a kiss and in this book we can see that they still care about each other.

Frangie and Walter: Walter is a soldier that Frangie sees from time to time. I think these two are really sweet together whenever I read scenes with them I can’t help but to smile.

Final Thoughts

Theres just so much to say about this book. This whole series was amazing the accuracy about things that occurred during WW2 and Grant just captured that beautifully in his writing. Like I said before all of the female leads are such strong women and are determined to fight for their country, I loved getting to read about each of them and follow them on their journeys. I feel like the background characters were great too, especially Jenou I love that she and Rio got to go into this as best friends and it stayed that way throughout the series. This is one of my favorite series and I’m so glad that I read it and I will always recommend this series to friends, so check out the Front Lines trilogy!

She's full of ambition, but without a husband, she's considered a failure. Together, these seemingly different women join together to write a tell-all book about work as a black maid in the South, that could forever alter their destinies and the life of a small town..

Dear Friend,

Recently, I finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I absolutely loved it! Why I didn’t read it sooner, I don’t know.

I picked up the book because its been my sister, Dani’s, favorite read of all time for a while now. It even holds a prominent place on her bookshelf.

I’ve seen the movie a while ago and thought it was very good. It never crossed my mind to read the book, though. Yet I’m so glad I did.

Seeing the movie beforehand didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the book. Even though the characters were described differently than their movie counterparts, I still saw them as the actors who portrayed them.

You won’t be surprised, of course when I tell you that the book is so much better than the movie! It’s richly detailed and you grow to know Aibileen, Skeeter, and Minny on a deeper level. This story is rich with emotion, history, and relationships. The relationship between the main characters themselves, their families and friends, between blacks and whites, and maids and their employers.

After all I’ve said so far, you must know that I think you read this now. And if you’re like me, always looking for romance in what you read, you won’t be disappointed by miss Celia and Johnny.

I hope you get a chance to read and enjoy The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Until next read 😉

Your Friend and fellow book-nerd,

Ali.

After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and her younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.
In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties for Ingrid, and, disturbingly, the house her twin brother, Grayson, was sent ahead to secure for the family isn't a house at all. It's an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.
And Grayson is missing.
Yet no one seems worried about his whereabouts save for Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.
Ingrid is sure her twin isn't dead--she can feel it deep in her soul--but she knows he's in grave danger, and that it's up to her and Gabby to find him before all hope is lost.
The path to Grayson will be twisted, leading Ingrid to discover dark secrets and otherworldly truths that, once uncovered, can never again be buried.

Short and Sweet

After a weird accident Ingrid Waverly, her mother, and younger sister leave London and move to Paris. When they arrive they discover that Grayson, Ingrid’s twin brother who was to have arrived earlier has gone missing. Ingrid and Gabby vow to find their brother before its too late.

Characters

Ingrid: Our main character who discovers that her brother is missing and that there may be more to the accident that happened in London than she thought. Ingrid was a good main character she cared about those closest to her. The things she learns about in Paris are interesting it makes her think about things from all angles.

Gabby: Gabby is Ingrid and Grayson’s younger sister. Gabby as the younger sibling is impulsive, but she does mean well.

Romance

Ingrid and Luc: I loved these two Luc clearly cares a lot about Ingrid more than he has for anyone before and I think that these feelings have him confused as to why he feels this way mainly because gargoyles only protect their charges because its their job, but there’s something different about the way he feels when it comes to Ingrid.

Gabby and Nolan: I don’t know which couple I liked more Gabby and Nolan or Ingrid and Luc. There was romantic tension between Gabby and Nolan and I just wanted them to be together so bad! Nolan kept pushing Gabby away and she had feelings for him and this made me ship them.

My Thoughts

~ I’ve read a lot of paranormal books and this is the first one I’ve read that had gargoyles in it. I loved it, this book was so different and I loved the setting of 1899 Paris.

~ Each of the characters were enjoyable and I also liked their interactions with each other and how they all came together, because of Graysons disappearance.

~ The mystery surrounding Grayson’s disappearance was so intriguing to me, we do get some chapters in his point of view but we don’t know who took him and why.

~ I liked that there were two different groups the gargoyles and the alliance. They don’t like each other but they try to stay on good terms with each other in case they need each others help.

~ There’s also demons coming from the underworld trying to get to the sisters, because the same thing that took Grayson is looking for his sisters next.

~ One thing that really surprised me was when one of the characters turns out to be one we can’t trust.

Overall

This was an amazing read, I’m excited to read the sequel, which is on my shelf. The ending was great and left me wanting more and to see what these siblings will have to endure next. I think this is a great book for people who like paranormal books with a little bit of a mystery.

But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quests for pleasure and vice are in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

So Monty vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

Short and Sweet

Monty and his best friend Percy are going on a grand tour of Europe, and they plan on having the time of their lives. Even with his younger sister, Felicity coming along, Monty won’t let it ruin his fun. But things get crazy when the group encounters an ancient artifact, highwaymen, and pirates.

Characters

Henry “Monty” Montague: Our main character who grew a lot over the course of the book. Monty has the most engaging voice, he’s entertaining and sassy. He got the group into the mess they were in by trying to get even with someone. Monty had the problem of saying things without thinking and often came to regret it, but his friends called him out on it. He was a flawed character but that’s whats great about him because over the course of the book he learned from his mistakes.

Percy: Monty’s best friend and our voice of reason. Percy is also a person a color which I found interesting, because of course during the time that this book takes place it makes travel for the grand tour a bit harder because certain places won’t allow him to stay. Percy also struggles in this book because throughout the course of his friendship with Monty he has always supported him and now Percy has his own demons to fight and wonders if Monty can support him.

Felicity: Monty’s younger sister and the brains of the group. Felicity’s strength and knowledge saved the group from dangerous situations. I was rooting for her throughout the book she had goals and I felt bad that during that time girls her age didn’t have many choices.

Romance

Monty has liked Percy for a while, and thinks the grand tour will be the perfect time to express how he feels. But things don’t work well mainly because Percy seems more annoyed with Monty than smitten. It seemed like Monty always said or did the wrong thing that ended up pushing Percy away.

My Thoughts

~ This isn’t an ordinary grand tour of Europe, like it was expected to be. Mayhem begins when the group reaches their first stop in Paris. This leads them to places that are off of their original course.

~ In Paris, Monty steals an artifact that leads to the group being attacked by highwaymen, hiding in a small town, going to Barcelona, meeting pirates, and trying to find something on an island that is sinking.

~ My favorite part of the book was the whole mystery surrounding the artifact and what it does. The artifact was the whole reason the group had to go off course so I was eager to find out what it could do.

~ What I loved the most about this book was how fast paced it was. From the very beginning we embark on a journey with these characters.

~ In each city we meet different characters and all of them add to the story in their own way. My favorite characters were the pirates I loved learning more about them and their ultimate goal.

~ I felt like I was with the trio of characters and I was worried about their well-being, they were in some dangerous positions and on the run from some people who wanted them dead.

Overall

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is a must read! Everything about it is amazing, the characters, the action and adventure, the diversity, and of course the romance. The ending was great and everything was wrapped up nicely. Monty, Percy, and Felicity are a set of characters I won’t forget. This is hands down one of my favorite reads of 2017, and I encourage everyone to pick it up and read it!

Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you're the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood, so to speak.

After the Affair of the Clockwork Scarab, Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes are eager to help Princess Alix with a new case. Seventeen-year-old Willa Aston is obsessed with spiritual mediums, convinced she is speaking with her mother from beyond the grave. What seems like a case of spiritualist fraud quickly devolves into something far more menacing: someone is trying to make Willa appear lunatic using an innocent-looking spiritglass to control her. The list of clues piles up: an unexpected murder, a gang of pickpockets, and the return of vampires to London. But are these events connected?

As Uncle Sherlock would say, there are no coincidences. It will take all of Mina's wit and Evaline's muscle to keep London's sinister underground at bay.

Short and Sweet Review

In The Spiritglass Charade, Mina and Evaline are asked to investigate who is trying to get a young heiress’ fortune. There’s also the mystery of a missing brother and vampires coming back to London. In this book we still have the same characters we met in the first book. This time both of the girls are eager to show that they have the skills to solve this mystery. The mystery surrounding Willa was well done, it wasn’t obvious who was trying to get her fortune. Mina was a hard character to connect to mainly because she comes across as smug  whenever she makes a deduction. I like Eva but during this book she made a lot of reckless decisions. Pix was also in this book and he’s just a big mystery. Who is he working for and what is he up to? Grayling is also back and I just love his character I want more of him he takes his job seriously and keeps Mina on her toes. I thought that Grayling’s scenes with Mina were cute I liked when they were together. The Ankh doesn’t make an appearance in this book but she was mentioned. I love mysteries and this series is great, I can’t wait to read the next book!
