The exclusive Mokani Island is Avery’s happy place. This summer, she’s invited her college roommate, Nora, to hang out in paradise and party with her superrich friends.

But the vibe feels off from the start. Avery’s ex can’t get over their split. Her best friend is acting weird. A hot new staff member can’t keep his eyes off her. And nobody likes Nora, who keeps sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong.

A tropical storm is brewing and everyone on the island seems to be hiding something—but are some secrets worth killing for?

Short and Sweet Review

Avery invites her roommate to spend the summer at this super exclusive, rich-kid getaway, but nothing feels as perfect as it should. Her ex won’t let things go, her best friend is acting weird, and Nora is asking way too many questions. It quickly turns into one of those situations where you know something bad is coming you just don’t know when.

The drama in this book starts immediately, and honestly… the vibes felt off from the second Nora arrived on the island. The characters are messy in a very YA thriller way. Avery isn’t always likable, but I didn’t mind that because it fit the story. Nora did annoy me at first, but she grew on me since she’s the only one actually paying attention and questioning things. There are a lot of side characters, though, and some of them kind of blended together. The pacing is a little slow in the beginning. It takes a while to get to the actual “big moment,” but once it hits, everything starts moving fast. The second half is definitely stronger and more suspenseful.I really liked the setting. The island feels tense and almost claustrophobic, especially with the storm coming in. It adds to that feeling that no one can escape what’s about to happen. The ending… I’m a little mixed on. There’s a twist, and while I didn’t totally love it, it did make things more dramatic.

Overall, this is a quick, entertaining read. If you’re in the mood for secrets, messy friendships, and rich-people drama with a thriller twist, this one is a solid pick. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book I found myself annoyed with most of the characters more often than not, but I can see others enjoying this book.
