Summer Ali has been making a name for herself in the music industry for years, slowly but surely climbing the charts—but the world doesn’t know her stage parents are the ones who molded her entire public persona. Finally eighteen, Summer breaks free of their control and focuses on creating her own path.

Upon running into writer’s block, Summer grows eager to take any opportunity to shake things up—even if it means agreeing to a PR stunt with child-actor-turned-playboy, Jules Moradi, famous for his tabloid escapades.

At first, Jules keeps his distance, maintaining professional boundaries. But as time passes, his walls come down, and Summer uncovers who he is beyond his reputation, and it’s someone more like her than she ever realized. As the lines blur between fake and real, Summer begins questioning who she is and what she wants—and if her dreams are worth sacrificing her heart.

Short and Sweet Review

Summer Ali has spent years making a name for herself as a musician and for all those years she’s had her parents as her managers. As of recently she dropped her parents and is ready to do her own thing and feel in control of her career. Summer needs to write music but she has writers block but she knows she’s ready to shake things up. When Summer bumps into actor Jules Moradi famous for being in the tabloids. When their manager comes up with an idea to have them pretend to date to up the PR for both of their careers and upcoming projects they both agree but they soon find that the lines between pretend and real are starting to blur.

I’ll Pretend You’re Mine, is a super cute book that has the fake dating trope, not only is it cute but it has some important themes like mental health, and knowing the importance of standing up for yourself. Summer is our main character and we only get her POV, we meet her when she just recently dropped her parents as her manager and throughout the book we can see how this affects her. Summer knows this is what’s best for her as her parents are pretty toxic but in a way they still have a hold on her. Summer also has younger sisters who she wants to see often but because of her current relationship with her parents it’s becoming harder. We see Summer has anxiety and her close friends are able to help calm her down when she has an anxiety attack. Jules is an actor and he’s trying to get cast for a movie which is why he needs this PR stunt. Jules is no stranger to paparazzi and being in the tabloids so he’s ready for the fake dating to commence. Summer and Jules have great chemistry and we see it blossom during the different seasons that the book takes place over. I feel like they each brought out the best in each other and were able to truly see each other for who they are and they find something special when they’re in each other’s company. Over time we see that Summer begins to fall for Jules but tries to remember that this is just a PR stunt. I think Summer’s sisters and friends really help to make the story. Both of our characters are going through a lot in life but we see them face different obstacles. I thought the story was fleshed out well and I loved the ending especially the epilogue.

Overall, this book was great and we see a lot of different things that get covered and it’s done really well. You find yourself falling in love with these characters and the relationship that they’ll inevitably have. I would definitely recommend this book, it’s cute and will make for a great read in the summer.
