Gwen is sick of hiding—hiding the fact that she’s taken over her father’s blacksmithing duties, hiding her attraction to girls, hiding her yearning for glory as a knight.

Meanwhile, Lady Isobelle of Avington, queen bee of the castle, has never once considered hiding who she is—until now. She’s been chosen as the grand prize in the Tournament of Dragonslayers, to be given to whichever knight can claim her hand. And for the first time in her life, she can’t talk her way out of trouble.

When Isobelle discovers Gwen’s knightly ambitions, they hatch a scheme together—Gwen will joust in the tournament, disguised as Sir Gawain. Winning means freedom for Isobelle, and glory for Gwen. Losing means… well, let’s not go there.

One thing’s for sure: Falling in love was never the plan.

But the best laid plans…are often trampled all over by dragons.

Short and Sweet Review

Lady’s Knight follows the story of Gwen and Isobelle. Gwen is the daughter of a blacksmith but she wants to be a knight but this isn’t allowed for woman. Isobelle on the other hand is known as Lady Isobelle of Avington and she’s been chosen to be the grand prize in the Tournament of Dragonslayers. Isobelle learns that Gwen wants to be a knight and she knows this is the perfect opportunity to help Gwen win the tournament so that she can be free. Gwen goes along with this plan and both girls know if they get caught it’ll be dangerous but they really don’t want to think about what’ll happen if they’re found out.

This was such a fun book! When you think of lady’s night it’s about a night out and about in the town but in this book we have a lady knight. Gwen has always had dreams of being a knight and she’s great with a sword the only problem is her gender. When Isobelle realizes that Sir Gawain is actually Gwen she decides to help Gwen fight as a knight and be free of the other knights fighting for her hand in marriage. We see Gwen stay at the castle with Isobelle and the other ladies but to Gwen this is a whole new world and only a select few know why she’s actually at the castle. Gwen has to be Lady Celine with the other ladies and disappear and become Sir Gawain for the jousts. I liked seeing Gwen during the jousts, people don’t know who she really is but it’s nice to see her kick butt when people have the misconception that women aren’t able to do the same things men can. Gwen and Isobelle were from completely opposite worlds, Gwen is used to working and she’s able to fight, Isobelle is a lady so she’s been taught etiquette but she’s also quite smart. We had interstitial chapters in the book which was fun to see because it was like the narrator was having a conversation with the reader. I almost forgot to talk about the romance, it was cute and we see the relationship between Gwen and Isobelle grow throughout the book and I loved it and it made the stakes seem even higher.

Overall, this was like a cozy fantasy book, but also very medieval and funny and I throughly enjoyed the vibes. This is the first book I’ve read by this duo but after reading this book I want to check out more of their books. Pick up this book and enjoy Lady’s Knight in a way you haven’t before!

TO DROWN A WITCH By Lindsey Olsson

Short and Sweet Review To Drown a Witch had a really intriguing premise that immediately caught my attention. The mystery surrounding the Witch’s identity, combined […]

BEWARE THE ABBOTT BOYS By Chelsea Ichaso

Short and Sweet Review Beware the Abbott Boys had all the ingredients for a mystery I should have loved: a suspicious family, a small town full of secrets, a dead girl, and a second murder that throws everyone into chaos. The premise hooked me immediately, and the opening chapters did a great job creating an […]
