Joan has failed to stop Eleanor.

Now Eleanor rules over a cruel new timeline where monsters live openly among humans, preying on them and subjugating them.

Nick—once a hero to humans, and Joan’s first love—is tormented by the choice he made to save her over the timeline itself. And Aaron—the ruthless heir to a powerful monster family—now finds himself in a world where monsters have power beyond imagining while his feelings for Joan grow.

Wrenched between love and rivalry, the three of them must negotiate their fractured pasts to survive the new world and restore what was lost. Because only they remember that there was once a better timeline.

But how will they defeat a whole world of monsters with control over time itself?

Short and Sweet Review

In this third and final installment of the Monsters trilogy were back with our characters from previous books but they’re stuck in the timeline Eleanor has made and they have to figure out how to make things right in a world that’s so wrong.

Joan, Nick, Aaron, Jamie, and Ruth are back and this book picks up where the second one ended. Joan and Nick are surprised by what Eleanor has revealed but they’ve spent so much time playing the cat and mouse game that they don’t know how to feel knowing that at one point they were a couple and they were going to change the relationship between humans and monsters. We still have the problem of being stuck in Eleanor’s new timeline where monsters are in charge and humans are below them. Everything in this timeline is wrong and we can see the cracks but if everything ends up the way Eleanor wants it then this will become the true timeline. Unlike the other books there isn’t a lot of jumping into other timelines, our characters are stuck and in this timeline Nick and Aaron have taken over for their counterparts who were actually working together and on a plan to stop Eleanor themselves. I think my favorite thing about this book was seeing all of the characters work together and being rooted to one timeline. It was a bit nerve wrecking seeing how different things were and just hoping our characters wouldn’t be caught. We still have a love triangle between Joan, Nick, and Aaron and I really didn’t know who I wanted Joan to end up but I will say the end was a little weird and I’m not totally sure how I feel about the relationship status. I did like seeing how everything turned out and honestly it was a good ending.

Overall, this was one of my most anticipated books of 2026 and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint. Unlike the previous books there’s not timeline jumping but it’s made up for because this is the final battle and everything led to this. I will say this quickly became one of my favorite trilogies and now that it’s over I’m pretty sad but these books will always hold a special place in my heart. If you haven’t read the Monsters Trilogy, what are you waiting for?

TO DROWN A WITCH By Lindsey Olsson

Short and Sweet Review To Drown a Witch had a really intriguing premise that immediately caught my attention. The mystery surrounding the Witch’s identity, combined […]

BEWARE THE ABBOTT BOYS By Chelsea Ichaso

Short and Sweet Review Beware the Abbott Boys had all the ingredients for a mystery I should have loved: a suspicious family, a small town full of secrets, a dead girl, and a second murder that throws everyone into chaos. The premise hooked me immediately, and the opening chapters did a great job creating an […]
