Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they've never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they're surprised . . . and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point--not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother's good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it's immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious--and dark--their family's past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn't over--and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

Short and Sweet Review

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah’s grandmother cut of their parents before the cousins were even born. The cousins don’t really know each other but when they’re invited by their grandmother to work at her island resort they’ll be spending a lot of time together and trying to get into their grandmothers good graces for the sake of their parents. But once they arrive on the island they realize something isn’t right.

We’re introduced to our three main characters Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah right off the bat. We learn that their parents were disinherited about 20 years ago but they don’t know why. So when a letter comes offering the cousins a job their parents send them in an effort to learn what went wrong and get inherited again. I liked that Milly and Aubrey hit it off and Jonah was somewhat uninterested in everything happening. Once they get to the island they meet there grandmother for a few minutes and it’s almost like she doesn’t want anything to do with them and didn’t even know they were coming. That’s when the wheels start turning and the cousins realize something is really wrong. Over the summer they learn secrets about their family and learn about things that happened 20 years ago that could have led to their grandmother cutting ties with their parents. I liked the vibes it was creepy and you could just tell that something wasn’t right about the whole arrangement. I love mysteries and I was invested in this one and learning about what happened. I will say when I got to the end my stomach dropped, it was a great ending but it was just crazy. I thought this was a good book and pretty on par with other books I’ve read by this author and I would recommend this book and her other ones.

TO DROWN A WITCH By Lindsey Olsson

Short and Sweet Review To Drown a Witch had a really intriguing premise that immediately caught my attention. The mystery surrounding the Witch’s identity, combined […]

BEWARE THE ABBOTT BOYS By Chelsea Ichaso

Short and Sweet Review Beware the Abbott Boys had all the ingredients for a mystery I should have loved: a suspicious family, a small town full of secrets, a dead girl, and a second murder that throws everyone into chaos.
