When Haden Romero and her rival, Deacon Rex—alongside their bands, including Haden’s ex, Cairo—are stranded on their way to a rock festival, she thinks missing the gig is the worst thing that could happen.

She’s wrong.

Marooned in treacherous swamplands with no way out, the group stumbles upon an eerie, decaying house. It seems like a safe haven, a place to wait out the storm.

The house, however, isn’t just abandoned—it’s been waiting for them.

Bodies begin to pile up. The walls start to close in. Twisted secrets come to light. And unless Haden and the others can survive long enough to escape, the house will claim them—forever.

Short and Sweet Review

Haden and her friend Kizi are on their way to a rock festival but on the way their car breaks down, which is how they run into Deacon Rex and his bandmates including Cairo, Haden’s ex. Haden and Kizi end up getting a ride with Deacon on his tour bus but things go from bad to worse when the bus crashes and they end up in some swampland with what appears to be a haunted house. The house isn’t empty it’s been waiting and the bodies begin to pile up.

This was an interesting book, and it started off great but the ending was horrible. Haden is our main character and she’s a musician on her way to a rock festival, we learn that she was on one of those talent shows and that’s how she met Deacon which whom she doesn’t have the best relationship with. When the bus crashes everyone is split up but Haden and Deacon are still together and there’s a lot of tension but he does end up revealing things that happened in the past that make her rethink things that she’s been holding on to. Anyway the big story here is this house it’s eerie and people have gone missing. I liked seeing the characters try to find each other and also a way back to civilization. I think the best part of the story is learning the history of the house and how all those people went missing. My biggest problem with this book was the ending, I felt like the decisions made were horrible. I do think this book set the tone with the creepiness and mysterious vibe.

Overall, I did prefer the first 80% of this book everything was built up so perfectly but I just hated the ending. I honestly think the ending ruined it for me, but I would still recommend this book because it wasn’t bad.
