Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

Short and Sweet Review

Natasha is just 12 hours away from being deported back to Jamaica with her family, and she’ll try to do anything she can to try to stop that from happening. Daniel is an aspiring poet but thats not what his parents want and he’s trying to live up to their high expectations. When they happen to meet on a crowded street in New York City Daniel thinks its fate, but Natasha is not a believer of fate or destiny and she doesn’t plan on falling in love. Well there’s a lot that goes on in this book Natasha is trying to find a way to stay in America and Daniel is on his way to a meeting with someone from Yale, and they just happen to meet and then they meet again. There’s a lot of coincidences in this book and it just felt like too much (if that makes sense). Our main point of view is from Daniel and Natasha but we also get some POVs from people they meet along the way which was interesting. My main problem with this book was I just didn’t connect with the characters, Daniel just seemed to like fate to lead the way while Natasha was more science based and realistic. I don’t really think the instalove thing worked out because they didn’t really know each other and the book takes place within one day in a few hours. The romance just didn’t work out. I did like seeing their families though Natasha’s is dealing with leaving and the thing is America is Natasha’s home its where she’s built her life, while Daniel has immigrant parents who are just trying to give him and his brother a better life than they had. In the end I thought the book was just okay it wasn’t my favorite I didn’t think it was that realistic and the characters weren’t ones that I connected with, I didn’t like their dialogue. I thought the plot was interesting and I liked the mini adventure around New York but thats about it.

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Short and Sweet

Our main character Maddy has SCID, which is the disease where you are allergic to everything. Then a new family moves in next door, and there’s a new boy her age that moves in and Maddy’s life gets a bit more interesting.

My Thoughts

~ I felt so bad for Maddy the only life she has ever known is being inside her house, she doesn’t have any friends and her mom and her nurse Carla are the only people she sees.

~ When Olly moves in next door everything changes for Maddy, she’s willing to risk everything just to meet him… in person.

~ I loved the friendship between these two. Maddy needed a friend and Olly needed someone to talk to about his life at home.

~ My favorite thing about this book was the images, they just made the book more enjoyable for me we got to learn about Maddy’s personality through them.

~ I’m glad Maddy got to live her life a bit, but I felt bad that she had to rebel against her mom to be able to do it, she loves her mom so much that it hurt her to do what she needed to live her life a little.

~ So there was a twist at the end and it totally threw me. I didn’t like it, I don’t want to spoil anything but this changed Maddy’s life. For better? I suppose, but did it make her life worse in a way? Mhmm, yes it did!

Overall

The book was fast paced and I could have finished it in one sitting, but I have school. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it held my attention the whole time I was reading it and it didn’t get boring at any point. I’m glad things ended the way they did and Maddy got some sort of a happy ending. I highly recommend this one!
