Finding out that her new school had her in a special homeroom for witches was strange enough, but now Nicole must face the realization that she has the rare power to kill with just a touch. It's a secret she needs to keep not only from the Head Elders, but from the super-sexy witch Blake, who she's had undeniable chemistry with even before he broke up with his long-term girlfriend, the vengeful witch Danielle.

Now Nicole and the four others gifted with powers over the elements, including Blake and Danielle, must stop a series of monsters that they previously believed to be dead from rising once again and destroying the mortal world. Three magical items are needed, including the blood of the slain hydra - ingredients that they must journey to the dangerous, mystical islands in Greece to retrieve.

The monsters they face on this journey will be more threatening than anything they've encountered yet. But with the fate of the world on their shoulders, it's up to the Elementals to return home victorious. Will they find the ingredients they need? Can Nicole and her friends pull off this mission while the tension between her, Blake, and Danielle threatens to ruin everything? And how long will it be until Nicole is forced to use her ability to kill in front of everyone, revealing the true darkness of her powers?

Short and Sweet

The Blood of Hydra begins where the Prophecy of Shadows left off. The Elementals have now learned how to use their powers which helps them especially because the portal between Earth and Kerberos has weakened. Monsters are now able to cross through the portal and Nicole and her friends must figure out how to send them back to Kerberos permanently. The group then has to go on a mission to find ingredients to make a weapon to deal with the monsters. The Elementals travel to Greece and during the mission the group meets a few friends and Gods along the way.

What I liked

-Seeing the Elementals grow and learn more about their powers.

-The group working as a team.

-Nicole ‘s archery skills.

-The adventure the Elementals go on.

-The new characters.

-The ending

What I didn’t like

– Nothing bothered me about this book. I think I may like it more than the first.

Overall

I thought this book was amazing! I really loved the story and the adventure we get to go on looking for this new weapon to send back the monsters from Kerberos. I also love the magic and mythology aspects its so different. There was also some intense scenes when going to the different islands for the ingredients to make the weapon. I can’t wait to read the third installment.

Bound together. Worlds apart.

Kami Glass is in love with someone she's never met—a boy she's talked to in her head since she was born. This has made her an outsider in the sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale, but she has learned ways to turn that to her advantage. Her life seems to be in order, until disturbing events begin to occur. There has been screaming in the woods and the manor overlooking the town has lit up for the first time in 10 years. . . . The Lynburn family, who ruled the town a generation ago and who all left without warning, have returned. Now Kami can see that the town she has known and loved all her life is hiding a multitude of secrets—and a murderer. The key to it all just might be the boy in her head. The boy she thought was imaginary is real, and definitely and deliciously dangerous.

Short and Sweet

Kami Glass lives in Sorry-in-the-Vale. Kami is your average high school journalist always trying to get the story. The only thing that’s not normal about Kami is the fact she has been communicating via her mind with a boy since she was a baby. Kami gets her big break when the Lynburns come back to town and she’s determined to learn their secrets.

What I liked

~Kami, she’s so determined and she’s your modern day Nancy Drew.

~Surprisingly this book was funny, which I wasn’t expecting it to be.

~The mystery kept me on my toes I actually didn’t know what secret the Lynburns were hiding.

~Jared and getting to see his point of view sometimes.

~The newspaper crew: Kami, Angela, Holly, Jared, and Ash.

What I didn’t like

~The only thing that bothered me was when the POV would switch between Kami and Jared I was confused about what was going on.

Quotes

~“Kami said, “I want you to go in there and vamp that receptionist.”  “What?” Ash said blankly.  “You know,” Kami said. “Dazzle her with your charms. Rock her world. Go on.”

Overall

I’m definitely glad I read this book! I thought the characters were great and so was the mystery. I plan on reading Untold soon! By the way something I just found out, on Sarah Rees Brennan’s website there’s drawings of the characters. If you like mysteries, with a paranormal aspect in a goth setting check this book out!

Celestine North lives a perfect life. She's a model daughter and sister, she's well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she's dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan.

But then Celestine encounters a situation in which she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found FLAWED.

Short and Sweet

Ah where do I even begin? Flawed is about Celestine who lives in a dystopian society where poor judgements and mistakes are not allowed. If you are found guilty of such mistakes you’ll be branded Flawed. “The Flawed are regular citizens who have made moral or ethical mistakes in society.” Our sweet perfect protagonist makes a bad decision one day and now she may be found to be something she never thought she’d be. FLAWED!

What I liked

~The last half of the book I mean when you get halfway through the book is when Celestine begins to seem a little smarter.

~Toward the end things start to pick up.

~When Celestine starts to figure things out.

What I didn’t like

~Celestine at the beginning of the book I mean OMG. This girl was so into herself I can’t even explain how ridiculous it was. “I’m just perfect. That’s all.”

confused really golden globes tom hanks golden globes 2014

~The beginning was slow.

~This society is also ridiculous I mean really the flawed have to shop in there own little space at the grocery store.

Quotes

Lets look at a few quotes. Shall we?

“Do they swap stories of how Flawed they are? Show their brands and laugh with pride, or are they ashamed, as they should be?”

“I see the large F symbol on his armband and I shudder, annoyed with myself for ever thinking someone like him could possibly be related to me.”

Overall

I mean it gets better towards the end but Celestine still does things that make you question how she’s an A student. I guess this book is a hit or miss depending on who you are and what you like. I would read the sequel just to see what’s going to happen next.

On her way, she meets three unlikely allies who embody key human virtues—the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.

Short and Sweet

I think we all know the story of the Wizard of Oz and sweet little Dorothy, but if you don’t I’ll give you a recap. Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and how could we forget little Toto. The adventure begins when a tornado comes and sweeps Dorothy, Toto, and their house into a magical land. Now Dorothy and Toto must find a way back to Kansas by finding the Wizard in the Emerald City, and along the way they meet some new friends.

What I liked

~ I liked Dorothy she was always looking out for her friends and looking for solutions to the problems they would come across.

~We get to meet people who weren’t in the movie.

~ It was a short book and easy to read.

~ Fun adventure to go on with Dorothy and the gang.

What I didn’t like

~ The only thing that bothered me was when the characters would repeat themselves if something went wrong. Ex. “I won’t get my brain. I won’t get my heart.” Just things like that. It happened a few times but I got over it.

Candace “Candy” Pickens has been obsessed with the swamp lore of her tiny Louisiana town for . . . forever. Name any ghostly swamp figure and Candy will recite the entire tale in a way that will curl your toes and send chills up your spine.

That doesn’t mean Candy’s a believer, however. Even though she and her friends entered the swamp at the start of summer and left it changed, Candy’s the only one who can’t see or feel the magical swamp Shine. She’s also the only one who can’t see the ghosts that have been showing up and spooking everyone in town ever since. So Candy concentrates on other things—real things. Like fighting with her mother and plotting her escape from her crazy town.

But ghosts aren’t the only newcomers in Sticks, Louisiana. The King family arrives like a hurricane: in a blur and unwanted—at least by Candy. Mr. King is intent on filming the rumored ghostly activity for his hit TV show, Local Haunts. And while Candy can’t ignore how attracted she is to eighteen-year-old Gage King and how much his sister, Nova, wants to be friends, she’s still suspicious of the King family.

As Candy tries to figure out why the Kings are really in town and why the swamp that had previously cast her aside now seems to be invading every crack in her logical, cynical mind, she stumbles across the one piece of swamp lore she didn’t know. It’s a tale that’s more truth than myth, and may have all the answers . . . and its roots are in Candy’s own family tree.

This book is exactly what I needed to get me out of my slump! Candace Is such a strong character I loved getting to see everything from her point of view. Getting to read about all of my favorite characters again like Sterling and Abigail. So many things happened in this book that had me on the edge of my seat. I was so happy to be reading another book about Sticks and the way Parker brings this world to life and weaves all of the creepiness is amazing!

What I Liked

~ Getting to be in Candy’s head

~ The mystery surrounding the ghost that are all of a sudden coming from the swamp and the King family

~ The friendship that Candy, Sterling, and Abigail have #FriendshipGoals

~ Finding out about Candy and her connection to the swamp

What I didn’t Like

~Nothing! Everything was amazing!

Favorite Quotes

~ Sterling trots along beside me muttering half sentences I don’t understand. “Cut that out before we get up there, Saucier,” I chide. “You sound cracked.”

~ ” Five minutes in town and you’re already running with the worst. I don’t know if I should compliment you or condemn you.”

Plus many more!

Overall

This was definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2016 and it doesn’t disappoint! I love the characters and the ending was great and something I wasn’t expecting. I just hope that there’s another book in the series and its about Abigail! This book is a definite must!!!

Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok's lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna's survival depends on the world believing she is dead.

But that doesn't stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized.

With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet.

I really love Sophie Jordan and her writing. Reign of Shadows presents a very unique world where people live in darkness and in fear of the monsters that lurk. Luna has been hiding in the tower all her life. Keeping her identity a secret after the world has been cloaked in an almost permanent eclipse.
I really enjoyed learning about Luna. She was a strong heroine completely capable of handling herself in fighting situations. A bit stubborn in situations and definitely proud of who she is and what she’s been forced to endure during her lifetime. Of course being cooped up all her life in the tower. And it’s no surprise she wants to venture out. But you can imagine that doesn’t turn out well for her and she finds herself on the run after her tower is invaded and those she was raised by are taken from her. It’s nice to see how she grows for the duration of this book. She isn’t quite the same person, by the end of the book. She’d never been away from her tower for so long and so far, and the experiences Outside have changed her. And yet, she still has all of her internal light and goodness. Fowler is our other protagonist. This book is written in first-person dual POV, switching between Luna and Fowler. I liked both of their POV’s. Fowler is gruff and stern and serious, and he has secrets of his own. He doesn’t let anyone past his walls, and he doesn’t show much emotion. He doesn’t want to be Luna’s friend but when he’s saved by Luna, he has a bit of debt to her. Fowler is the way he is because of life in the eclipse; he’s hardened and determined to find a better life in Allu, free of dwellers (creatures that started to appear after the eclipse).
The world is very different in this fantasy, its not like an other fantasy I’ve read before.
The pacing of the book is fast with lots of action and it didn’t take long to read I breezed through it.
Of course I need to read the next book! That ending and huge cliffhanger left me wanting more. There’s no way you will not want to read on once you see what happens.

When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly ... she's apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers--and, to her dismay, by Blake--the school's notorious bad-boy.

Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle's wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.

When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect--it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it's up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town ... and possibly the world.

After Nicole Cassidy and her family move from Georgia to Salem she gets quite a shock on her first day of classes in her new school. When handed her schedule Nicole sees she’s been placed in all honors classes and feels it must be some kind of mistake but is told she won’t be able to change until the end of the day. When entering her homeroom a bomb is dropped on Nicole and she is told she’s a witch and so are the rest of the kids in her homeroom.
One night her homeroom class meets at the teachers house to watch the Olympian Comet that only comes around every three thousand years.. The class has to break into groups of 5 people. Nichole’s group feels something strange and they are gifted with mysterious powers. These mysterious powers comes with a great price to pay. After learning that the group is now gifted with new powers they realize that with these new powers they have to go on a quest. I enjoyed the characters and the premise. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the relationship between Nicole and Blake I just don’t see it. Nicole was an enjoyable character I mean she was shocked about being a witch but she embraced it and she was a natural at using her newfound powers. The book was pretty predictable it was easy to find out clues on what would happen next, who would do what, and how things came together. There were a few times that I was genuinely caught off guard, particularly towards the ending and final climax of this story. Overall I enjoyed this book I liked how there was a mix between witches and Greek mythology it was interesting to see how the two intertwined. The book was shorter than I thought it was so I breezed through it. I definitely enjoyed the first installment in this new series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the book!

Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes—and three girls secretly plotting revenge.

KAT is sick and tired of being bullied by her former best friend.

LILLIA has always looked out for her little sister, so when she discovers that one of her guy friends has been secretly hooking up with her, she’s going to put a stop to it.

MARY is perpetually haunted by a traumatic event from years past, and the boy who’s responsible has yet to get what’s coming to him.

None of the girls can act on their revenge fantasies alone without being suspected. But together…anything is possible.

With an alliance in place, there will be no more “I wish I’d said…” or “If I could go back and do things differently...” These girls will show Jar Island that revenge is a dish best enjoyed together.

The sweet smell of revenge is in the air! I loved this book I couldn’t put it down. I loved the plot and the characters. Mary, Kat, and Lillia all have different personalities but it was so fun to see them come together and how these different personalities came together because of one common goal. We get to learn more about each girl through their POVs I felt connected to each girl but I like Kat more than Mary and Lillia. Honestly I think I liked this book because of the acts of revenge. Who doesn’t like a good revenge plot? I can honestly say the revenge plots were pretty good and the targets had no idea what was coming. The only thing I had a problem with was the ending I’m not entirely sure what was happening. I felt like a Carrie vibe going on but it was just weird and hard to describe. I would read the rest of the series, I ended up loving this book more than I originally thought I would.

One thing’s for sure. Sometimes, humans can be more monstrous than anything else …

This book was so good! Dark Heart of Magic is one of my favorites this year! So much goes down in this book!  I felt like I wasn’t reading fast enough.  Guys things happen so fast in this book! The Tournament of Blades is going on and Lila has been chosen to be in it and someone is going around killing monsters. I can’t say how much I Loved this book!! In the domed city of Evanescence, appearance is everything. A Natural Born among genetically altered Aristocrats, all Ella ever wanted was to be like everyone else. Augmented, sparkling, and perfect. Then...the crash. Devastated by her father's death and struggling with her new physical limitations, Ella is terrified to learn she is not just alone, but little more than a prisoner.

Her only escape is to lose herself in Nexis, the hugely popular virtual reality game her father created. In Nexis she meets Guster, a senior player who guides Ella through the strange and compelling new world she now inhabits. He offers Ella guidance, friendship...and something more. Something that allows her to forget about the "real" world and makes her feel whole again. But when their separate worlds collide, Ella will have to choose between love and survival. Because Nexis isn’t quite the game everyone thinks it is.

And it’s been waiting for Ella.

Nexis follows Ella. Her father just created a virtual reality world in the future that they live in. The virtual reality is called Nexis. In Nexis you can create a virtual character and be whoever you want and do whatever you want. The only catch is that you can only play for six hours and then you have to take a break. The game literally kicks you out after six hours and won’t let you log back on for another eighteen. (Just imagine if Twitter did that, I’d die!)

After creating the game Ella’s father, wins an award and the two of them end up being part of the Aristocracy. However, later that night Ella’s father is killed. Ella survives, though she lost her legs and finds herself alone in a room. All she has is her robot whom she’s known all her life. Therefore she decides to play Nexis for once. In Nexis Ella meets Gus and I just love the connection those two had. Nexis follows Ella’s adventures and discoveries while she’s in the game, and outside the game.

Ella was an amazing character. Despite her loss, she managed to stay strong and fight for herself. I definitely felt for her. I think that my favorite character was definitely Gus. He was just so caring and sweet towards Ella and he showed her what love really is. The two of them were absolutely perfect together.

I loved the idea of Nexis. I also really loved the world that Davroe has created.  Nexis is worth the read. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens in book two. I just hope the wait isn’t too long, because I need more of Gus and Ella and their next adventure!
