When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.

At least, he's not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

Short and Sweet Review

Feyre is a huntress and she’s the main provider for her family so when she goes out to the woods one day and shots a wolf the last thing she is expecting is another beast to come on her doorstep demanding retribution for what she’s done. The wolf that Feyre killed was actually a faerie from a different land, as a punishment Feyre must live the rest of her life in these lands. While in Prythian Feyre learns that the beast is actually a high lord and that he’s been cursed. There’s something wrong in Prythian and Feyre can feel it and she’s determined to find a way to stop it.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a Beauty and Beast retelling and its interesting because The Beast (Tamlin) is a faerie with the ability to shape shift into a wolf, Tamlin is a part of the spring court and unfortunately when his court was invited to a masquerade party they were cursed and everyone has a mask stuck to their face. Anyway Feyre spends most of her days brooding around, she’s not really a captive but she thinks she is in her own mind, she’s actually free to roam. Anyway after she realizes that being in Prythian isn’t as bad as she thought it would be she begins to develop feelings for Tamlin. Most of the book takes place in Prythian we see some Faerie parties take place, we learn that there’s something very wrong with the land and there’s a lot of faeries that are a lot weaker than they should be. At one point Tamlin sends Feyre back to her land but she comes back to Prythian because she realizes how much she loves him. Well now Feyre has to go through three trials and prove her love for Tamlin, and while doing this Feyre makes a deal with a faerie that we’ll be seeing more of in book two.

Feyre was an okay character, she was very set in her ways and didn’t think that anyone could be doing anything nice for her. She was kind of annoying in that way that she couldn’t trust anyone not even her sisters. Tamlin was not very important to me he was cursed and that’s about it, you learn more about him from other characters than from himself. The more I think about it the plot was pretty basic, I get that its a retelling but nothing about it wowed me. This is the second time I’ve read this book and even though I want to finish this series, I’m not in a rush to do it and I think that says everything.

Barrett Bloom is hoping college will be a fresh start after a messy high school experience. But when school begins on September 21st, everything goes wrong. She’s humiliated by the know-it-all in her physics class, she botches her interview for the college paper, and at a party that night, she accidentally sets a frat on fire. She panics and flees, and when she realizes her roommate locked her out of their dorm, she falls asleep in the common room.

The next morning, Barrett’s perplexed to find herself back in her dorm room bed, no longer smelling of ashes and crushed dreams. It’s September 21st. Again. And after a confrontation with Miles, the guy from Physics 101, she learns she’s not alone—he’s been trapped for months.

When her attempts to fix her timeline fail, she agrees to work with Miles to find a way out. Soon they’re exploring the mysterious underbelly of the university and going on wild, romantic adventures. As they start falling for each other, they face the universe’s biggest unanswered question yet: what happens to their relationship if they finally make it to tomorrow?

Short and Sweet Review

Barrett’s first day of college isn’t going well, she thought she’d get a fresh start after high school but fate had other plans for her. First she gets called out in physics class by another student, botches her interview for the school paper, and ends up going to a party and setting it on fire. Obviously after the fire Barrett flees in embarrassment and finds that she’s been locked out of her dorm room so she just crashes on a couch in the common room. When Barrett wakes up its not a new day it’s the same day and she soon learns that the kid who called her out, Miles has been reliving this day for weeks. Now the two of them have to work together to set the time line straight.

I loved this book and the Groundhog Day style time loop. Barrett doesn’t trust Miles right away after what he did in physics class that first day but she has no choice but to work with him. I liked seeing how they would live the day out and see what they would do differently. I also liked seeing how the relationship between Barrett and Miles progressed after spending so much time together it was great seeing how vulnerable they were with each other. There’s also a little mystery surrounding a professor that no one seems to remember but she’s also Barrett and Miles only hope of getting back home.

Even though it was fun to see Miles and Barrett live out the same day and seeing what they did different I did feel for them when they wanted to go home and live the unexpected. This book was funny and cute and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are great and I love how they learn that sometimes the unexpected is okay and that life is meant to be lived. I would definitely recommend this book, the time loop aspect, the characters, and the romance will have you hooked!

Two years ago, one mistake cost Gideon Royal the girl of his dreams. Since then he’s become jaded and stoic, caught in a spiral that has him dealing with blackmail, heartache and loss. When he left for college, he hoped to start over. But fate has other ideas, placing Savannah Montgomery in his path again.

Savannah believes there’s no coming back from Gideon’s betrayal.

He thinks she’s wrong.

Forgiveness. Hope. Redemption. Gideon has vowed to win back the only girl who owns his heart. And when a Royal makes a promise, he’ll go to the ends of the earth to keep it.

Short and Sweet Review

Tarnished Crown is a novella and it follows the story of Gideon the oldest Royal sibling and Savannah. I thought it was a good story. Gideon isn’t around much in the Royals series because he’s off at college. In the novella we learn about what happened between Gideon and Savannah, why they broke up and what led to everything that happened between them. We get both Gideon and Savannah’s POV and the book alternates between present day and the past. Savannah is visiting college and thats where she bumps into Gideon, and he decides its time to face their problems and try to win the love of his life back. I really enjoyed this story, it was kind of heartbreaking learning about what happened while they were dating when they were in high school, but Gideon trying to make up for it and putting in an effort during the present day was sweet. It was interesting reading from Gideon’s POV mainly because he’s not around often, but I learned a lot about him, he definitely regrets a lot of things and you can tell, he also had a lot of weight on his shoulders being the oldest sibling. Savannah on the other hand is mainly bitter she was hurt a lot and she didn’t deserve it. I liked them both and the ending made me happy. I wish we had more of these two, but for now this novella was satisfying. If you read The Royals series be sure to read this novella!

Emerson Lowe and popular ice-hockey player Jake McCallister have been best friends since third grade but as their friendship starts to morph into something more a terrible event occurs that heralds the end of innocence for both of them.

Within a week, Jake’s living on the other side of the country and Emerson is left alone to pick up the pieces of her life in a small town determined to paint her as a liar.

Seven years later, Emerson is still living on the beautiful Pacific West island of Bainbridge, helping run her family’s business. The last thing she needs is Jake turning up, bringing with him old memories and opening up old wounds. But Jake—even better looking than Emerson remembers—seems determined to revive their friendship no matter how much Emerson tries to push him away.

Forced to work alongside him for the summer Emerson can’t help but fall for Jake, and soon they’re in the midst of a passionate romance that neither of them wants to end.

But both Emerson and Jake know that if they’re to have any kind of future they must first confront the past—a past that most people want to stay buried.

Short and Sweet

Emerson and Jake used to be best friends until he ends up moving away suddenly. After not seeing each other for seven years Jake is back and wants to try to be friends again and Em just wants to push him away because she knows that if she lets him in she’ll have to relive old memories that she’s been trying to move on from since he left.

Characters

Emerson: Em is such a strong main character I loved her. I liked that she continued to be strong even when she didn’t want to. She has her guard up which is understandable especially after what happened to her which I’ll get more into later.

Jake: I loved Jake too. All he wanted to do was come back to Bainbridge and see Em and try to make things right. He was sweet and he tried his hardest to get close to her without overstepping her boundaries.

Romance

So Jake and Em do have a history they shared their first kiss together when they were 13 and 14. Now fast forwarding to the present Em has her walls up especially when she sees that Jake has returned to the island. When Jake tries to rekindle their friendship he’s met with an Em who just wants to push him away. But Jake didn’t stop and I’m so happy he didn’t because when they finally got together everything felt right. They were meant to be together, they were best friends and they know so much about each other which made it even better. Even though they have a relationship they still have to work on talking about what happened in the past which is still a little difficult. But I’m glad they ended up together they just mesh together so well and they truly love each other.

My Thoughts

~ So when Em was in high school she was sexually assaulted by her ice hockey coach which also happens to be Jake’s uncle. That was the day when Em’s life shattered. No one believed her except her parents and she was ridiculed in school by her peers and called a liar.

~ We also get to see into Em’s personal life which doesn’t seem much better she works at her family business which isn’t doing the best and in the past year her father was diagnosed with MS. Em has to manage all these things in her life and it isn’t easy for her.

~ When Jake finally comes back after seven years Em just wants to know what he’s doing back but she doesn’t want to be his friend again.

~ Jake returning was interesting, we learn about why he left and we get to learn why he returned later in the book. Jake coming back changed things on the island mainly because he’s kind of famous. He still plays hockey and is the #1 draft pick so he’s well known. When he comes back he decides to take a job at Em’s family business to try to get close to her but it also helps pick up business too.

~ I liked Toby’s character. He’s one of Em’s friends and also works at the family business. He has good intentions and he helps Em out a lot.

~ Shay is also one of Em’s friends we don’t see much of her because she’s in another state during most of the book but she’s always supportive of Em and trying to give her the best advice she can.

~ We also get to see some of the towns people like the Walsh brothers who have history with Em and Jake they’re not the best people but they do play a big part in the book towards the end.

Overall

I loved this book! I usually don’t read a lot of new adult but this is now one of my favorites! The progression of the relationship between Jake and Em was perfect. I also liked how Gray touched on the subject of sexually assault and showed how it affected Em’s life. This is such an amazing book and I recommend that everyone picks it up, I plan on reading some of Gray’s other books!

From mortal enemies to unexpected allies, two teenagers try to protect everything that matters most.

Ella Harper has met every challenge that life has thrown her way. She’s tough, resilient, and willing to do whatever it takes to defend the people she loves, but the challenge of a long-lost father and a boyfriend whose life is on the line might be too much for even Ella to overcome.

Reed Royal has a quick temper and even faster fists. But his tendency to meet every obstacle with violence has finally caught up with him. If he wants to save himself and the girl he loves, he’ll need to rise above his tortured past and tarnished reputation.

No one believes Ella can survive the Royals. Everyone is sure Reed will destroy them all.

They may be right.

With everything and everyone conspiring to keep them apart, Ella and Reed must find a way to beat the law, save their families, and unravel all the secrets in their Twisted Palace.

Short and Sweet

Twisted Palace picks up right where Broken Prince ended. Reed has a murder charge over his head and Ella has to deal with her father coming back from the dead. With all the things trying to keep them apart Ella and Reed have to try to find a way to stay together.

My Thoughts

~ Both Ella and Reed have grown so much from the first book. I love their relationship I think they both make each other better people, they’re perfect for each other. I want what they have lol.

cute gossip girl aww blair waldorf aw

~ In this book we still get both the POV of Ella and Reed, which I like because we get to see what each of them think especially with everything that is going on around them.

~ This book kind of felt like a mystery. I mean of course Ella doesn’t think her boyfriend is a murderer so she tries to find the person who actually killed Brooke.

~ These two had to deal with adversity, with people talking behind their backs and to their faces and doubting Reed’s innocence.

~ I almost forgot Ella’s father comes back which stirs up a lot of drama. He just popped up out of nowhere like it was normal. I didn’t really like Steve mainly because he just came back and was trying to change everything in Ella’s life.

Bachelor in Paradise season 3 episode 4 abc ashley This is really how Steve came back, as if it was normal to come back from the dead.

~ I love all of the secondary characters like Val! We get to see a little bit more of her and Wade’s relationship. We also get more of Dinah of course because she’s Steve’s wife. I’m still not sure how I feel about her I mean she was still rude to Ella but she just lost her best friend, and Steve treats her awfully.

~ I loved Ella in the first book and I still love her now. I will always root for Ella, she’s strong, independent, and caring. She won’t let people break her she always keeps going and I love her for it.

~The Royals are also more like a family with Ella around. She’s good for them and makes them better. And they’re like the family she hasn’t had in awhile.

~ The ending surprised me I wasn’t expecting it. Wow.

Overall

I would DEFINITELY recommend this series! It’s so addicting and each book seems to be better then the last. I fell in love with the Royals and i’m sure you guys would too. So check this series out! I would love to see novellas or maybe another book focused on a different character from this series but i’m going to miss this series. If you like a little drama and a swoon worthy romance pick this series up!!!

But when one foolish mistake drives her out of Reed’s arms and brings chaos to the Royal household, Reed’s entire world begins to fall apart around him.

Ella doesn’t want him anymore. She says they’ll only destroy each other.

She might be right.

Short and Sweet

Broken Prince starts right where Paper Princess ended with Ella leaving the Royal household alone and with a broken heart. The Royal family desperately wants to find her as she is the glue that held their family together. Reed has a past he needs to explain to Ella and try to regain everyone’s trust by making amends.

My Thoughts

~ I loved this book! It lived up to my expectations. The Royal trilogy is now one of my favorites.

~ In this book we get a dual POV we get to see what Reed is actually thinking. I liked it getting to see things in his perspective and then seeing things in Ella’s was nice.

~ The characters are what really make these books special. They’re apologetically themselves raw, honest, and flawed.

~ I love Easton we learn so much about him and who he truly is.

~ Ella is a great heroine to follow. She’s a genuinely good person and looks out for her friends and won’t stand around when people try to bully her.

~ There were some plot twist that caught me off guard and it just made me want Twisted Palace even more!

~ The romance between Ella and Reed just puts a grin on my face. The chemistry those two share… they’re developing their relationship and I like it!

Overall

If you’ve read the first book you’ll definitely love this sequel. I couldn’t put it down these books are so addicting I just don’t want to leave the world. If you haven’t read Paper Princess you should! All three books are out now, you guys should check them out!

Ella Harper is a survivor―a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

Short and Sweet

Ella is a teenage girl who has been living alone after her mother’s death, and is working multiple jobs to survive. Ella’s main goal is to graduate from high school and go to college. Everything changes when Callum Royal a friend of her deceased father (who Ella has never met) tells her that he is her legal guardian. Ella moves in with Callum and his five sons who all seem to hate her and now Ella has to learn to survive in this new environment.

My Thoughts

~ Ella has had a hard life, she’s never met her father and after her mother’s death she resorts to stripping to pay the bills.

~ Ella is funny, intelligent, and strong. She dealt with different situations that came her way the best way she could, from rumors, mean girls, and the boys ignoring her and trying to make her life hell.

~ In the beginning the Royal brothers were hard to like because they were stand offish and weren’t even giving Ella a chance. As the book went on and the boys relationship with Ella progressed I found myself liking them and wanting to see more of them.

~ The romance was hot and I think that was because of their love hate relationship. Ella and Reed had a good dynamic.

Overall

This was such a good book, once I got into it I couldn’t put it down it was so addicting! I’m ready for Broken Prince to release to see how different events will play out especially after the ending of this book. I would DEFINITELY recommend this book, but if you plan on reading this book I would suggest waiting until Broken Prince is out because it feels like the wait is so long.

Quinn is looking forward to her senior year at Poe University. She has big plans to hang out with her best friend, flirt with a certain boy genius, party at her favorite dive bar and figure out what she's going to do after graduation with her not-so-useful art major. But that's before she meets Luke, a hot townie who's moved back home to help take care of his dying sister. And it's before a weird epidemic sweeps across campus, mysteriously turning people's eyes purple.
Is it an odd side effect from a new party drug?
Is it a rogue virus developed in a campus lab?
Is it the mark of the devil?
Soon the town starts blaming the university and the student religious group becomes frighteningly aggressive in their on-campus accusations. Quinn and Luke are caught in the middle—until a tragic accident forces Luke to reveal the one part of himself he's kept carefully hidden. That he's so much more than the happy-go-lucky boy next door Quinn had believed him to be isn't a surprise…but this truth might be too dangerous for her to handle.

Something strange is happening in and around Poe College, the town and students are quarantined, no one in and no one out. Why? Because someone or something is infecting people with violet eyes! Purple Eye Disease is spreading and doctors think it is carried through bodily fluids. There are other side effects, too, that are not exactly bad, just unexplainable.

Caught in the middle of this is college student, Quinn, a carefree college senior, looking to have fun with her friends. When events in town get nasty, as the fear of the purple eye disease grows, the college is blamed and anyone associated with or having purple eyes becomes a target for violence and even death. Through it all, Quinn becomes involved, she always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, trying to help, but causing more trouble and coming under the scrutiny of the law. Quinn also meets a love interest, Luke. But when Quinn finds out he has secrets of his own she wonders if she can still trust him.

Quinn’s character took some time for me to warm up to, but when the story started getting deeper, so did Quinn’s character. Although there was danger from the unknown and the cult, Quinn was determined to find out the cause of the illness. Half the campus is in quarantine and not allowed to leave but Quinn is constantly breaking the rules and finding more and more clues. She meets Luke right before the epidemic and is constantly ignoring his wishes. She is determined to help her friends and others.

Luke is a loveable character. He is handsome, sweet and caring. Luke is keeping a secret, which when it came out I am not sure why, but it does add to Quinn’s confusion. Neither Luke nor Quinn were looking for a relationship but the epidemic brings them together. Rashid another possible love interest is a scientist. I didn’t really see the connection. Luke was true to his character throughout the story. His interest and concern for Quinn’s safety and those who took ill never wavered.

When we finally dive into the mystery illness, the author gives readers danger and suspense. There are twist and turns that I did not see coming. I would have liked to had more of Quinn and Luke too, but the story is fast-paced. Overall I think Heartsick was a good book.
