For July Fielding, nothing has been the same since that summer before senior year.

Once, she had Alex to be her loyal best friend, the one who always had her back. She had Sydney, who pushed her during every cross country run, and who sometimes seemed to know July better than she knew herself. And she had Sam. Sam, who told her she was everything and left her breathless with his touch.

Now, July is alone. Every single person in her small town of Lithia has disappeared. No family. No Alex or Sydney. No Sam. July’s only chance at unraveling the mystery of their disappearance is a series of objects, each a reminder of the people she loved most. And a mysterious message: GET TH3M BACK.

Short and Sweet Review

July Fielding’s life hasn’t been the same since the summer before her senior year. Now July is the only person in town, she can’t find anyone, including friends and family. Around town July finds a message saying “Get Th3m back”, July follows clues to try to get everyone she loves back.

In this book we follow July try to piece together everything and try to find out why and how everyone disappeared. We alternate from the present and the past. I will say it was kind of hard to follow when we alternated because the chapters are so short that it felt like we didn’t have enough time in one time period. We see in the past what happened during July’s summer which includes the three people who are closest to her, Alex one of her best friends, Syd also a friend and cross country teammate, and Sam a boy she likes and ends up dating. In the present we see July try to use clues that reminds her of people to try to find out what happened but those clues lead her to what happened in the past so everything was a correlation. This book had me hooked I just wanted to know why July was alone in this town. I will say that July did have depression which plays a big part in this story.

Overall, this book makes you think, especially when you get to the end. I liked following July around town trying to find traces of anyone who could still be around, and also seeing how the summer before senior year impacted what’s going on now. The book didn’t end in a way I expected but I think that’s the best thing about it and Condie was able to accomplish what she was trying to with the plot and July. The writing was great and it will have you guessing right up to the end.

In the room beneath a stage's trapdoor, Shakespeare’s dead teenage girls compare their experiences and retell the stories of their lives, their loves, and their fates in their own words. Bestselling author Joy McCullough offers a brilliant testament to how young women can support each other and reclaim their stories in the aftermath of trauma.

Short and Sweet Review

In the Trap Room, a room beneath the theater stage, there’s a room full of girls who have met a tragic end in Shakespeare’s plays. Ophelia, Cordelia, and Juliet share their stories and maybe even change things around to make it so they’re living their own lives and not one that was written for them.

Enter the Body is a novel in verse, which was interesting because through this style each girl told her story differently. The girls take turns telling their stories and how they ended up dying in the tragic ways they have. I liked reading their stories, mainly because I’m only familiar with Romeo and Juliet. Ophelia and Cordelia were more mature than Juliet and they did tell their stories as if they were older. The sharing of stories in the trap room formed a bond between not only the three, but with some of the other girls who were listening in the background. At first we see them share what has happened in a way that we’re all familiar with: the way Shakespeare wrote it, but they decide to take matters into their own hands and change the parts of their stories that made them so tragic and change it so that they’re the author of their own fates.

This book was short and easy to get through and I enjoyed how creative it was in how it was written in verse and how each character had their own flair.

Bears aren’t the only predators in these woods.
Best friends Neena and Josie spent high school as outsiders, but at least they had each other. Now, with college and a two-thousand-mile separation looming on the horizon, they have one last chance to be together—a three-day hike deep into the woods of the Pisgah National Forest.

Simmering tensions lead to a detour off the trail and straight into a waking nightmare … and then into something far worse. Something that will test them in horrifying ways.

Short and Sweet Review

Neela and Josie are best friends and before going off to college they decide to go on a camping trip. The only thing they need to worry about is bears and navigating the woods and making it back home. Unfortunately there’s more to worry about in the woods than just bears.

Where to start, where to start? Neela and Josie are supposedly best friends but once they start their hiking we see them throw jabs and say things that are hurtful to each other. I don’t know if it was the stress or if they’ve just been holding back and things were finally let loose. Neela was a selfish character and basically only cared about herself. Josie was bossy and overbearing. Once these two clashed the only thing that brought them back together was the fact that Josie got hurt. During the time Josie got hurt we see both POVs as Neela leaves to go get help. The things that happened just seemed unrealistic, I feel like Josie could have survived one thing but the rest of the things that happened should have just taken her out. The perpetrators had no real motive and it was just a waste, I would have rather seen the girls run from a bear. The ending again seemed like something that could happen but the fact that it happened to that certain character the probabilities of it seem 50/50.

I’m glad this book was short because the first 100 or so pages was the girls just arguing, and whining. I didn’t like either character and I don’t feel like there was suspense or at least enough to keep me on the edge of my seat.

It's been almost a year since Makani Young came to live with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska, and she's still adjusting to her new life. And still haunted by her past in Hawaii.

Then, one by one, the students of her small town high school begin to die in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, Makani will be forced to confront her own dark secrets.

Short and Sweet Review

I will make this review really short and not so much sweet. Makani lives in Nebraska with her grandma. Someone is killing the students in town in pretty gruesome ways. Thats pretty much it Makani lives in a small town with a serial killer on the loose. I just could not deal with this book there were times when I would just read something sigh and put my kindle down. Makani has a romance with Ollie and geez you would think that for a story about a killer in town there would be less making out and sex and more trying to stay safe and find out who the killer is. There’s also a plot line about Makani dealing with something that happened in her past and once I got to that part I sighed and put my kindle down, honestly that whole thing about what happened in Hawaii was a waste of time and irrelevant to anything happening. Also no one will guess who the killer is because it’s not anyone relevant, their motive is stupid, and it just leaves you wondering why you read 291 pages of nonsense. 3 days later and I’m still trying to clear my mind of the ridiculous mess that this book is. Honestly girl, small town, killer, lots of making out, and nonsense, that’s it!
