Still reeling from her recent battle (and grounded until she graduates high school), Alice must cross the Veil to rescue her friends and stop the Black Knight once and for all. But the further she ventures into Wonderland, the more topsy-turvy everything becomes. It’s not until she’s at her wit's end that she realizes―Wonderland is trying to save her.

There’s a new player on the board; someone capable of using Nightmare creatures to not only influence the living but raise the dead.

Dreams have never been so dark in Wonderland, and if there is any hope, Alice must confront the worst in herself―and in the people she loves―and face the very nature of fear.

Short and Sweet review

Not long after her last battle, Alice has to go back to wonderland to save her friends from the Black Knight one last time. Things are different than before and there’s new characters that Alice has to figure out. The more I read this series the more I fall in love! This version/retelling of Alice in Wonderland is so intriguing, I love it. Alice is back and this time there’s more at stake. Chess has been taken by someone in wonderland, and there’s someone in wonderland who’s trying to create an undead army. A Dream So Dark continues where A Blade So Black left off, so our characters are still looking for the Heart. What I loved was that everyone had to band together at one point Alice was split from the rest of the group but she did end up meeting Haruka which was another dream walker. I also loved how Courtney finally got to go to wonderland and see what Alice’s other life was like. There’s so much action and there’s kind of a mystery surrounding who the Black Knight is. We get a few different POVs which really added to the story. The ending was great and I’m really hoping this isn’t a duology because I would love to see more of these characters! If you’re in the mood for an Alice in Wonderland retelling put this series on your list!

Seventeen year-old Frankie Devereux would do anything to forget the past. Haunted by the memory of her boyfriend’s death, she lives her life by one dangerous rule: nothing matters. At least, that’s what Frankie tells herself after a reckless mistake forces her to leave her privileged life in the Heights to move in with her dad―an undercover cop. She transfers to public school in the Downs, where fistfights in the halls don’t faze anyone and illegal street racing is more popular than football.

Marco Leone is the fastest street racer in the Downs. Tough, sexy, and hypnotic, he makes it impossible for Frankie to ignore him…and how he makes her feel. But the risks Marco takes for his family could have devastating consequences for them both. When Frankie discovers his secret, she has to make a choice. Will she let the pain of the past determine her future? Or will she risk what little she has left to follow her heart?

Short and Sweet

Frankie is struggling to cope after witnessing the murder of her boyfriend, Noah. Frankie now has PTSD and relives flashes of that night and is unable to remember who killed Noah. Dealing with the stress of not being able to remember leads Frankie to make a reckless decision that sends Frankie from her life of privilege to living with her dad who is an undercover cop on the poorer side of town.

My Thoughts
~ Frankie is eager to leave behind her old self and start living the way she wants to live.

~ Her new lifestyle comes with gambling, street racing, people with records, and bad boy Marco Leone.

~ I will say that the relationship between Frankie and Marco was insta-love but I didn’t mind. They both needed each other and it was cute.

~ I found it interesting how much I actually liked the aspect of cars and how it was a big part of the plot.

~ It was also interesting to see Frankie’s flashbacks of the night Noah was murdered and how much more she’s able to remember as the book progresses.

~ I Loved Frankie’s friends and some of the new ones she meets at her new school.

~ Frankie grew a lot throughout this book, but I will admit she did something reckless again that worried me.

~ Frankie is really trying to heal and find herself in this book.

~ I realized I didn’t say much about Marco. First of all I have a crush on him, he wasn’t always a bad boy he used to be an AP student but after something happened he had to resort to street racing. Marco is a good person, he’s romantic and sensitive.

Overall

I finished this book in no time! All the components in this book work really well, a rich innocent girl, meets a bad boy, and all of the street races. It was cute and heartbreaking at the same time. I liked the ending, and I would love companion novels on some of the secondary characters. Definitely recommend this one!
