Short and Sweet Review

After having his heart broken Shane comes up with a formula to save other guys from the trouble of heart break. This book was funny, light and refreshing. There’s so many things I love about this book Shane’s friendship with Jak and I liked seeing all of the people that Shane helped. Shane is clueless sometimes, but he’s a cute character, he’s smart, loyal, funny, and caring. I loved Shane as a main character! Loved the story line and if you guys like this book you should check out I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl, it kind of has the story line except the main character is a girl. Anyway this book is awesome and such a good read, it’s like a teen movie that’s hilarious but doesn’t have any drama.

Short and Sweet

After finding a dead body near her houses, Nicolette feels she has no choice but to leave her home in Ohio and go on the run and into hiding. Jack is the son of a hitman, and he’s been sent on a mission by his brother; to find Nicolette and kill her.

Characters

Nicolette: The girl that everyone loves, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She has no experience in disappearing.

Jack: The son of a notorious criminal, who tries to stay on the right side of the law until he’s pulled into the family business. With no experience with murder, Jack has to outsmart Nicolette in order to find her.

My Thoughts

~This is literally a game of cat and mouse with Nicolette and Jack trying to outsmart each other. One is on the hunt and the other is on the run.

~The chapters alternate between Nicolette and Jack. They both have their own voices and values. I really liked reading both of their POVs mainly because we can get inside their heads. To see Nicolette’s ideas and where she’s going to hide and to find out how Jack plans on finding Nicolette where she’s hiding was so interesting!

~The romance I loved it. I ship the two of them so hard after reading this book. I loved it so much, I can’t stop thinking about the two of them. I think I like the romance so much, because they’re not meant to be together; he was sent to kill her!

Overall

I loved this book so much, I read it in one sitting! I feel like I can read it again and again which is rare for me. It’s so good the plot and the characters were amazing! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. This is a must read I think everyone should go out and buy it and read it especially if you’re a fan of thrillers and mysteries!!!

there are two sides to every breakup.

This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation.

Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet.

It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days. La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care.

But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.

Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

 

When I first started reading this book, I was sure that my review would be scathing. Both the hero and heroine were annoying me. Between repetitive words or phrases and the constant mention of MySpace (this title was published in 2007), I wanted to throw it across the room. The book, I mean. There was one of the phrases that annoyed me, “I mean”. I understood what you meant the first time.

I would have played a drinking game for  each time I had to read “I mean” or “MySpace,” but I’m afraid a couple chapters of that and I’d be wasted.

I will say, as the story progressed, it did get better. I did come to like the characters a bit better. Not a lot, but a bit.

There are lines like this, that made me :/

“We’ve reached her locker now, and she starts to turn the combination dial. She’s biting her lip while she does it, and I suddenly have the urge to reach over and bite it for her. Her lip. Not her locker. God, I’m losing it.”

Did anyone really think he meant her locker? :/

I don’t feel that Courtney or Jordan had much character growth. They were much the same throughout the book. I especially don’t feel that Courtney had any growth. She was the same from beginning to end. With Jordan, I do think he realized in the end that what he did was a mistake and knew he needed to do things differently going forward.

Unfortunately, while I did come to like the book more when I finished than when I started, I can’t recommend it. It’s not a title I will reread. There is a companion novel, Right of Way, which I am tempted to look into, but only to see what happens to not only Courtney and Jordan, but also their friends Jocelyn and B.J.
