Short and Sweet Review

The Cheater follows our main character Carter who has a big math test to take and instead of taking it herself her classmate Adam ends up taking it and then he starts to blackmail her.

This is one of the Fear Street books I would consider a miss, I thought it was awful. We have our main character Carter who’s rich and used to getting what she wants. Sadly, she’s not great at math and needs to retake a math test and get a high score, she doesn’t believe in herself so she ends up accepting Adam’s offer to take it for her. Adam takes the test and gets a high score and decides to hold this over Carters head and starts to blackmail her. Adam starts asking Carter to go on dates with him even though she has a boyfriend and then starts to ask her for money. Honestly, Carter was still in high school so the punishment wouldn’t have been that egregious and when you look at Carter’s cheating and Adam’s blackmail they’re both in the wrong. My biggest problem with this book is that it seemed too repetitive, and anytime Adam demanded something Carter would do it and she wouldn’t put her foot down, because apparently this math score was important to her than having to sell her valuables to meet Adams price. Eventually Adam winds up dead but it wasn’t surprising because he was messing with the wrong people and he was also a bit unhinged.

Overall, I didn’t like this book and I couldn’t read it fast enough because I just wanted the torture to be over. This is a Fear Street book I won’t be recommending, the plot is good but we have a main character who’s a doormat and her street smarts or book smarts are non-existent.
