Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery's never been there, but she's heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

The town is picture-perfect, but it's hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone has declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she's in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous--and most people aren't good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it's safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

Short and Sweet Review

Ellery and her twin brother Ezra have always heard about the town of Echo Ridge, because that’s the town their aunt went missing in. Now Ellery, is moving to a town she’s heard all about, to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

Five years ago, the homecoming queen was killed, putting Echo Ridge on the map. The town seems to have moved on but everyone has their secrets and someone seems to want to make a statement at this years homecoming and by pulling pranks but things get dark when a girl is kidnapped.

Ellery is into true crime so moving to Echo Ridge isn’t the worst thing she kind of wants to figure out what happened to her aunt it also doesn’t hurt that someone is targeting people who are being voted as homecoming queen. Malcolm is our other main character, he has it hard mainly because his older brother dated Lacey the homecoming queen who died five years ago and everyone thinks his brother did it. Anyway Malcolms mom remarried and now they live with Peter and his daughter Katrin, Katrin is popular and is voted as someone who could be homecoming queen and so is her friend Brooke. There’s a lot going on so follow me down the rabbit hole. There’s this like fair ground that the teens go to and that’s where Lacey was murdered and now that I’m writing that I’m not sure if that’s super important but still follow me. Anyway three people from Lacey’s class come back to town, and all seems a little shady. Moving on that little part is supposed to keep us guessing who could be the culprit but it’s weird because Ellery’s aunt went missing way before Lacey was even around. I digress. So someone is eventually kidnapped and Ellery our true crime queen tries and I mean tries and fails horribly to piece together the clues to find us our culprit and she blames everyone but the right person. Then we have Malcolm who is basically blamed by everyone in town which is pretty hysterical and its such a small town that the sheriff is like, “yeah lay low.” Basically not even doing a decent job.

The ending was unexpected I wasn’t sure who did it mainly because Ellery threw me off so much that I wasn’t even on the baseball field anymore I was out in the parking lot. I don’t even know what I didn’t like I was just unsatisfied in the end.
