In the aftermath of Sombra’s return, the balance between light and dark magic has been destroyed and chaos has broken out in Castallan and around the world. Sombra’s shadows have taken over to create monstrous versions of everyone Finn and Alfie love, and with war between Castallan and Englass looming, the prince and the thief must band together one last time—to save their entire world.

To stop the magical imbalance, they must find the stone relics of Sombra’s body before the god can unite the pieces and regain his full strengthonce more.

But the laws of magic no longer apply, and with their own magic—and even the laws of time itself—drastically changing at every turn, Finn and Alfie are left on their own to stop Sombra and fulfill their prophecy before it is too late and the darkness reigns.

Will they restore balance to their world or will its light be gone forever?

Short and Sweet Review

Lucero is the final book in the A Forgery of Magic trilogy. It picks up right where Oculta left off. Sombra is back and he brought the chaos with him. Sombra has disturbed the delicate balance between light and dark magic and his shadows have taken over. It’s up to Alfie, Finn, and company to defeat him and try to restore things back to normal.

In Lucero we see everything from the first two books lead up to this big moment, it’s finally time to stop the big villain. Sombra is causing havoc and it’s up to our characters to figure out how to stop someone they think is much more powerful. We see Alfie and Finn go one way while Luka, James, and Paloma follow another lead. I enjoyed this book immensely and I thought everything was wrapped up nicely. It did take me a few chapters to get my bearings and remember things that happened in the second book because of the gap between the release dates. I don’t want to spoil anything but I did like seeing the character growth especially with Finn. I love how Alfie and Finn’s relationship grew over the course of the three books and I appreciated that Alfie knew that Finn had boundaries and he was great about that. There was a lot of turmoil that Alfie had to deal with and I think he handled things as well as anyone could especially dealing with so much loss in a short amount of time. I still love reading about the magic system in this series and it was a bit different in this book because of what Sombra did so it was interesting to see the characters adjust.

Overall, this was a good ending to the series. I do think it would be better to read them all back to back for memory purposes but other than that everything was great.
