After surviving a car accident that claimed the life of her best friend, Teresa is now terrified to leave the safety of her bedroom. Since then, her only solace and window to the outside world has been the online community she found through streaming.

But one night, the safe world Teresa created starts to break down. A shadowy figure appears in the background of her favorite's streamer's video, and his behavior mysteriously changes over the next few days before he dies in front of thousands of viewers. Teresa finds herself at the center of a life-and-death investigation as the world tries to figure out what or who this figure could be . . . especially as it begins appearing in the other people's streams, compelling them to "open the door" and let it in—including Teresa’s own. In order to save herself and the rest of the internet from this relentless entity, Teresa must venture outside of the mental and physical walls she’s created. But will she be able to conquer her fears before anyone else loses their life?

Short and Sweet Review

Ever since the car accident that took her best friend’s life, Teresa has been stuck in the house and it’s progressively gotten worse to where she won’t even leave her room. Teresa spends her time watching different people do their live streams and chatting with her streaming friends. When a popular live streamer has something weird happen during his stream people think it’s a prank but he ends up being catatonic for a while. Teresa realizes it’s not a prank especially when more streamers begin to act strange. Teresa takes it upon herself to do some investigating and she realizes there’s something more sinister gong on than what anyone expected.

Our main character Teresa has been in her house since the car accident she was in. We see that she spends most of her time online she’s kind of like a shut in but she’s only 17. When one of the streamers she watches ends up having something weird happen, Teresa takes it upon herself to start investigating and reporting her findings on her own stream. Teresa ends up becoming popular with her updates but she also starts becoming a bit unhinged. She has good intentions but she doesn’t go about things the way she should. The thing about the culprit in this book is that they aren’t so cut and dry it’s a ghost but their intentions are based on hurt feelings. The PTSD that Teresa has is well written we can see that she has fears and also how this affects everyone in her life. I think my favorite thing about this book is that towards the end of each chapter we get to see the comments in the stream so that format makes the book go faster.

Overall, this wasn’t the most amazing book but it was good and fast paced enough to keep your attention. I think this is a fun book to read if you’re into watching livestreams and want a mystery and paranormal aspect too. I would recommend this book it was quick and entertaining.
