College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation, where the popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks in the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero.
When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

Short and Sweet Review

It’s Claire Danvers first semester in college and she’s only 16. Unfortunately she’s already made some enemies in the dorm. Monica and her friends terrorize Claire and Claire decides she’s had enough. Claire finds an ad about three friends looking for a roommate and that’s when she meets Eve, Shane, and Michael the occupants of Glass House. Claire quickly learns that Morganville isn’t a normal small town, its filled with vampires.

I read Glass Houses back in middle school and from what I remember I liked it a lot, I probably would have given it 4 or 5 stars. After rereading it I would give it 3 stars. The book is very easy to read and kind of has a cliche mean girls thing going on with Claire and her bullies. The vampire thing works in a way that this book series in going to revolve around vampires. What I mean by it works in a way is that the vampires are brought up but there’s not a lot of interaction with them mainly because Claire’s new roommates do their best to protect her. Speaking of roommates, Michael is kind of the go to guy and he’s partially dead? Shane is laid back, and Eve is a goth girl but has a protective motherly energy. I should also mention that Claire is quite smart I mean she’s only 16 and is in college, if I remember correctly her intelligence comes to play a bit in this book but is utilized more in future books. Anyway another big thing that happens in this book is Claire finds a book that the vampires in town have been looking for and if she thought she had problems before she really has to watch her back. The ending reminds me of The Simpsons Movie when the mob comes to the house. The ending is a cliffhanger and I plan on reading the next book at some point.

Overall, this is a short book and it’s entertaining to an extent. I think since the time this book was published there’s been better young adult books that involve vampires so it still holds up if you keep in mind it was published back in 2006.
