Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she’s completely popular. It’s everything she’s ever wanted.
But beneath all the fun—the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom—is a nagging sense that something’s wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally’s ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what’s wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold.
Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life—because the authorities don’t intend to let anyone with this information survive.
Short and Sweet Review
Pretties picks up a little after where Uglies left off. Tally is now a Pretty and she’s living the Pretty lifestyle but she gets the sense that something isn’t right. When Tally gets a message all of the things from her past are now remembered and she has to make a choice between keeping her new lifestyle or going back to what she was doing as an ugly and making things right.
Pretties is the second installment in the Uglies series and I didn’t like it as much as I liked the previous book. Tally is a pretty now and I didn’t realize how vapid they were until I had to read their dialogue. The pretties don’t do much except go to parties and have fun. Tally gets a message and realizes that the feeling she’s been having are confirmed and being a pretty isn’t what she really wanted. We see Tally come to her senses and try to reunite with David and the others from the smoke. Honestly it felt like there were a few plot holes, especially when it came to Shay and being so upset with Tally. I also thought Tally had the biggest crush on Peris so I was surprised when he wasn’t her boyfriend and it was someone else. The amount of times they use the word bubbly will drive you insane. There’s really not much that goes on in this book, we see Tally as a pretty going to parties, getting bubbly, realizing she should be with her fellow smokies, and making stupid decisions.
Overall, not my favorite book but I’m two books in so I’m invested in finding out what happens next. Hopefully the next book is better and if it’s not it’ll be in my next review.
