The cost was steep, but Reed is officially an Aristene.

And not just any Aristene, but a Glorious Death, guiding only those heroes whose glory costs them their lives. It is a heavy burden, but to forget the prince she left behind, Reed throws herself into it, harvesting heroes at what some say is a reckless pace.

So when Lyonene is summoned to guide a princess to a glorious marriage, Reed sees an opportunity—a hero who isn’t fated to die—and they secretly arrange for Reed to go in her place. But instead of an easy mission, she arrives to find chaos: an old enemy is rising to threaten the Aristene, and one of the princess’s suitors is Hestion, whom Reed still loves, and who may yet love her.

Reed has already given everything to the order. As oaths are broken and lives are lost, what more must she give to save her sisters, and herself?

Short and Sweet Review

Reed is finally an Aristene but it’s not what she has imagined. As glorious death she leads her heroes to have their glory moment but those moments lead to their deaths and it’s taking a toll on Reed to see her heroes die. Lyonene is still with Alsander but it’s time for her to go to a new hero, but Reed comes up with the idea that she takes Lyonene’s new hero and Lyonene can stay with Alsander. Reed’s new hero is Yngarue a princess, and Reeds job is to act as a matchmaker the only problem is that one of the Princes coming to see Yngarue is Hestion. Not only does Reed have to deal with seeing Hestion try to win over a princess but there’s something far more sinister coming for the princess and anyone who stands in the way especially the Aristene.

Warrior of Legend is the last book in the Heromaker duology and its a masterpiece. Reed is struggling with seeing her heroes die which is probably why we see her jump at the chance to take Lyonene’s hero and play at matchmaker instead. The universe has a funny way of working so even though Reed thought she’d have a little peace she ends up having to face Hestion. I love these two at first there’s some tension and Hestion was trying to make Reed jealous but they ended up realizing that they still have feelings for each other and I loved it. Lyonene ends up making some bad decisions when it comes to Alsander like getting married. As much as the girls tried to keep their switch under wraps they end up being found out and that’s when things really begin to pick up in the book. Reed ends up going back to Atropa and Lyonene has to go be with Yngarue and Alsander ends up becoming one of her suitors. Yngarue has one more suitor but he doesn’t come to her so she ends up going to him and that’s when the aristene learn that they’re up against an evil that is just as powerful as them. In this book we see how loyal Reed is and almost to a fault, she takes the blame for everything because she thinks she holds the cards and unfortunately it ends up backfiring. We also get to see the POV of multiple characters. I think my favorite thing is seeing the Aristene fight together as sisters and how deep their sisterhood truly runs, we also get some Three Dark Crowns easter eggs which I loved. This book took me through an emotional rollercoaster there was something that happened towards the end that broke me but it had to happen. There were a lot of decisions made in this book that seemed like it shouldn’t have happened but it made sense to make the story progress and give certain characters their motives.

Overall, I’m so sad that this series is over, but I absolutely loved every minute of it! I really hope in the future there’s a novella because that epilogue left a lot of room for more things to be explored. I do think I loved this second book more than the first mainly because everything was being set up in the first book but in this book our warriors are going to battle and it was exciting to see. Definitely pick this book up, and if you haven’t read Champion of Fate pick that one up too and binge read this series!
