When Beth March is found dead in the woods on New Year’s Day, her sisters vow to uncover her murderer.

Suspects abound. There’s the neighbor who has feelings for not one but two of the girls. Meg’s manipulative best friend. Amy’s flirtatious mentor. And Beth’s lionhearted first love. But it doesn’t take the surviving sisters much digging to uncover motives each one of the March girls had for doing the unthinkable.

Jo, an aspiring author with a huge following on social media, would do anything to hook readers. Would she kill her sister for the story? Amy dreams of studying art in Europe, but she’ll need money from her aunt—money that’s always been earmarked for Beth. And Meg wouldn’t dream of hurting her sister…but her boyfriend might have, and she’ll protect him at all costs.

Despite the growing suspicion within the family, it’s hard to know for sure if the crime was committed by someone close to home. After all, the March sisters were dragged into the spotlight months ago when their father published a controversial bestseller about his own daughters. Beth could have been killed by anyone.

Beth’s perspective told in flashback unfolds next to Meg, Jo, and Amy’s increasingly fraught investigation as the tragedy threatens to rip the Marches apart.

Short and Sweet Review

Beth March is dead. Its New Years Day and Beth March has been found dead and her sisters are determined to find her murderer. Unfortunately the more the girls try to figure out what happened the more it becomes clear that each of them could have had a motive to murder Beth.
Meg is the oldest and has an apartment with her manipulative best friend and although Meg wouldn’t hurt her sister, her boyfriend might have. Jo is the next sister and she needs some inspiration for the book she’s writing but would she really go as far as killing her own sister? Amy is the youngest and she’s artistic and wants to go to a summer call but she doesn’t have the money and the only person she can ask has put the money away for Beth’s tuition.

So this book is a modern imagining of Little Women, and I’ve never read the book, but it was fun to read this book and see how everything unfolds. The book starts right away, with the murder and introduction of each sister. We also learn that the March Sister’s father is a famous author and used their lives to write his controversial novel “Little Women.” Since then he’s been gone as he was canceled and wanted to protect his family from the fans who take things too far. We get each Sister’s POV and I didn’t have a favorite but you can tell how different they all are and how they each have a different personality. Beth seems like the sweetest and not always too confident but she’s always her sisters biggest supporter. Meg is the oldest and most responsible but she’s in over her head at college and it has to do with her best friend. Jo is the second oldest and I would say she was the closest to their dad and also wants to be an author but she’s struggling for inspiration and although it’s not right she may use this murder to write the next big thing. Amy is the youngest and a free spirit and somewhat rebellious and has a tendency to say exactly what’s on her mind even if it’s just to hurt someone else. Even though we have the 3 March sisters who look suspicious and have a motive we also have a few more characters that could have done it and honestly with their dad’s book out three exposing their lives, anyone could have killed Beth.
I enjoyed watching the mystery unravel and finding out what actually happened. I figured it who the suspect was towards the end but that didn’t ruin anything for me, there was a surprise at the end that I wasn’t expecting. The ending was good and everything was wrapped up nicely.

Overall: This was a great mystery and a perfect way to start off the new year. If you’re looking for a mystery that’s also a fresh take on a classic, look no further!
