Madison Avery’s dreams of ever fitting in at her new school died when she did. Especially since she was able to maintain the illusion of a body, deal with a pesky guardian angel, and oh yeah, bring the reaper who killed her to his untimely end. Not exactly in-crowd material. It’s amazing that her crush, Josh, doesn't think she’s totally nuts.

Now Madison has learned that she’s the dark timekeeper, in charge of angels who follow the murky guidelines of fate. Never one to abide by the rules, she decides it’s time for a major change to the system. With the help of some unlikely allies, Madison forms a rogue group of reapers who definitely don’t adhere to the rules of the heavens.

But as she grapples with the terrifying new skills that come with being a timekeeper, and tries to give a young hacker a chance to save his soul, Madison realizes she may not be prepared for what lies ahead—unless she gets some seriously divine intervention . . .

Short and Sweet Review

Madison Avery is back and now she’s the new dark timekeeper. She has Barnabas and now Nikita to help her with her now role. Madison wants to change things and that means giving people a second chance and she has the chance when she meets a hacker. Madison learns quickly it’s not easy to change someone’s fate but not only does she have to battle with the hacker she also has to battle with the light timekeepers.

A month or two ago I posted my review for the first book in this series and I didn’t love it and although this one isn’t amazing it is miles better than the first. Madison is adjusting to life as the timekeeper and her first mission is to help a hacker. It’s usual for dark timekeepers to just reap people but Madison wants to try to give people a second chance, which is hard for Nikita and Barnabas to understand but they go with it. Madison meets Ace and Shoe who plan on uploading a virus that could kill people. With a whole big mix up that occurs we realize only one of those boys should actually be the one Madison is helping and the other one isn’t nearly as bad, but once that mistake is realized it’s too late as the light keepers are protecting the boy set out to cause mass destruction. Honestly this book has a pretty simple plot and I found I enjoyed it. I liked seeing Madison learn more about her role and seeing how she had people who had her back. Josh is still her romantic interest but we didn’t see a lot of him as Madison was trying to save some lives.

Overall, this book is a big step up from the first novel. Is it an amazing book? No. But it’s short and entertaining enough to just read if you have time or want something quick.
