In the town of Avan Island, there was a group home called Sister’s Place. It housed girls no one cared about, girls who had nothing and no one but each other. Over the course of six months, eight girls from the home seemingly disappeared, never to return.

But one girl did.

Nev is the girl who returned. The girl who survived. She's done her best to leave what happened in the forest on Avan Island behind her, but now, five years later, the men in charge of Sister’s Place, the men who brushed the missing girls off as “runaways,” are turning up dead. And Nev realizes that confronting the town that was all too happy to forget her may be her only chance to get answers about what happened to her sisters.

As Nev is pulled deeper into Avan's secrets—and as more bodies pile up—she must unravel the mysteries locked in her own mind as she hunts down a killer who is willing to do anything to make sure the past stays buried.

Short and Sweet Review

Sister’s Place was a group home on Avan Island in Maryland, seven girls went missing, but no one really cared to look into it. Nev has tried her best to forget about Avan Island and move on but when two men who ran the group end up dead, Nev decides to return and get answers.

When I went into this book I thought it was a mystery about what happened to the seven missing girls and the current murders taking place. Nev shows ups to Avan Island with a vengeance and she ends up running into another girl who used to be at the group home, Roan. Roan is a few years older and now she’s a journalist, currently covering the story of the missing girls and murders of people in town. Roan agrees to help Nev uncover the truth and gives Nev the cover of being an intern. This is where the book went downhill for me. I found Nev to be insufferable, every time Roan would give Nev directions Nev would do the complete opposite and just go rogue and she could have put Roan’s job in jeopardy. I get that Nev wanted to find out what happened to her sister’s but if she wanted to do things her own way she should have just worked alone instead of agreeing to Roan’s terms because its not like she followed them anyway. Nev is rough around the edges and she just comes across as abrasive and I didn’t find any redeeming qualities. Any one who knew something about what happened at the group home was being murdered so we usually saw Nev do some interrogating and then eventually that person was a goner. I did think the ending was good and I liked the explanation.

Overall, I had a really had time with this book. I thought I would enjoy this book but I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I personally didn’t like this book but I can see other’s enjoying it, which makes it hard for me to outright say I recommend this book.
