Short and Sweet Review
Seraphine and her Order of the Merchants are in a remote town and they plan on eradicating shade magic with lightfire. Seraphine doesn’t have total control of her powers yet but it makes her a target and as destiny will have it she’s brought back to Fantome. Ransom on the other hand needs to step up and handle the responsibilities of being head oof the Order of the Daggers, but he can’t get Sera out of his head. When Sera and Ransom are forced to work together by the order of the King to stop the Prince, they begin to realize maybe their rivalries really will keep them apart.
The Rebel and the Rose, was one of my most anticipated books this year and I was extremely happy when I got my hands on it. I just remember the first book and how I loved the enemies to loves romance that we had going on between Sera and Ransom. In this book we still have that vibe but when we get these two together the water is cold and it takes a while for it to warm up again but when it does it reminds us why these two are meant to be together. Sera has her own order and while she’s in charge she has also been having trouble with her power, she’s not able to control it but when things are chaotic it comes bursting out of her. Ransom is having to prove himself to the other daggers and that if it really came down to it he could take Sera out. Funny enough the King recruits both Sera and Ransom to kill the Prince whose power is growing. Sera and Ransom along with their orders now have to put their rivalries aside and learn how to work together, I think this was one of my favorite things about the book, I love when a team assembles. I feel like the Daggers and the Merchants each have qualities the others lack and when they’re together they’re able to bring together the missing pieces. Now we have Sera and Ransom together and they’re not immediately jumping into each others arms and at first I was upset but when they finally warmed up to each other I realized the wait was worth it. We also get to see the Prince in this book and find out the nefarious plans he has. I thought he was an interesting character and I’m interested to learn more about him. The ending was good and it definitely leaves us wanting more.
Overall, I loved this book. I love Sera and Ransom and when I got this book I thought it was a duology but I’m glad that there will be another installment. I can’t wait to see what’s next for these characters and the city of Fantome.
