Sadie Morelli and Cason Tano were friends in middle school, back before Cason’s mom died and Sadie transferred to a new school. When they meet again as high school juniors at the local ice rink where Sadie waitresses and Cason’s hockey team plays, what was once friendship blooms into something more. Given the intensity of the rivalry between their schools, their budding romance is a secret for them alone.
But then someone turns up dead at the local train station. Sadie and Cason were both at the station the night of the murder, and both have a reason to want to hurt the victim. With accusations flying and secrets being held close to the chest, Sadie and Cason must decide the lengths they’re willing to go to to clear their own names—and to protect each other.
Short and Sweet Review
Sadie and Cason used to be friends back in middle school but didn’t keep in touch after Sadie transferred to a new school. These two reunite at the local ice rink where Cason’s hockey team practices and Sadie is a waitress. Sadie and Cason’s friendship blooms into something more and they keep their relationship on the down low especially because their schools are rivals. When someone ends up being murdered at the train station on a night that both Cason and Sadie were there, they’ll do anything to protect each other but also clear their own names.
I’ve read every book that Lepore has written and she does an amazing job at writing mysteries that will keep your attention til the very end, and this book is no different. Sadie and Cason are basically in a forbidden relationship mainly because of their schools huge rivalry, so they mostly meet and talk in secret. They’re supposed to meet one night but there ended up being a change of plans when Sadie’s best friend Quinn and her boyfriend Kai end up having an argument at the train station. Later on Sadie learns that Kai was found dead and things quickly unravel. Sadie looks like a suspect because she had some problems with Kai for very good reasons, and Cason is on the opposing hockey team and he’s gotten in a fight with Kai recently. I loved seeing all of the texts and police interrogations and just seeing how everything was unfolding. I think my favorite thing was seeing Sadie and Cason’s bond become stronger throughout this whole thing, their world was dealing with a lot of outside stress but I was happy to see them be each others rock. I love mysteries and this one was great I loved following our characters, we get both Cason and Sadie’s POVs and we can see what each of them knows and the different people they interact with. It was a good mystery and the twist at the end really surprised me.
Lepore really does a great job at writing mystery novels and I haven’t read one yet that I haven’t loved. If you’re in the mood for a mystery that will have you reading a book in one sitting check this one out!
